Audio - old Amiga mods?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Audio - old Amiga mods?

Hiya,

Can anyone point me in the direction of something equivalent to the old Octamed MOD music generator on the Amiga?

I want to generate externally if necessay and then playback this MOD music inside B3d or BMAX and have control over the volume etc.

Is there anything similar to what I have described and how much is it please?

Thanks

IPete2.

Modplug Tracker will probably do what you need

They tell me MadTracker is pretty good, but it seems a playback library is pretty hard to come by.

Modplug is good and free, MadTracker is prob the best but (afaik) commercial. Another good tracker is Buzz http://www.buzzmachines.com/

Ok thanks guys,

Are there any libraries for any of these (or others) which can be called easily inside Blitz? I guess I am looking for a 'turn key' solution here - I want to be able to create them and then easily play them back in Blizt3D controlling track volumes, track playback etc.

If not is there anything similar already in use I could look at in B3d / BMax?

Wait...
Check out Papa Lazarou's MaxMod Music Module.

you can use bass.dll which plays mod/it/xm files and all that jazz in b3d/max

There's a wrapper hanging around here somewhere...

it cost about £70 per platform (from memory...) for a shareware licence but thats for unlimited titles.

website here

Aymes,

I think thats what I was looking for thanks I shall check it out.

Haramani thanks I shall have a look and see.

I used to use FastTRacker2 in DOS but my setup is no longer compatible ... sniff :-(

I looked at Modplug, and it looks good but it didn't have that tracker feel so I didn't use it.

Madtracker is decent enough but you gotta pay if you want some extra features.

why not get OctaMED for the PC - It's the one I use and I personally love it.

Jake

Have you any experience in coding / controlling MadTracker please?

IPete2.

Use Impulse Tracker!

Yeah its dos based, but you can get it to work using VDM sound (and FT2 jake, unless you've got that EMS problem)

IPete2: I'll skype you later.
Aymes: I'd love to get FT2 working again. seen any links on the web to how to sort it?

GA: Depends on what your problem with running it is nowadays?

HeadAche Tracker is going to be cool, but it's still in development... =] and it's geared towards interactive game music.

Toby,

That is good to hear dude! Keep us informed please.

Aymes: It load but hangs when playing any music because it's trying to access the soundcard on the old IRQ basis which doens't work. I have an Audigy 2.

try getting VDM Sound:

VDM Sound Link

This has always been the best method IMO, the only other problem I ever had when using this was lack od EMS, but that was to do with my hardware.

Or the other possibility (although possibly a lot slower) is Dosbox

Dos Box link

Setting up WinUAE with your favourite tracked shouldn't be too much of an onerous task, surely?

I did the same to enable access to a decent sprite editor (Brilliance 2.0).

That is good to hear dude! Keep us informed please.

Development is going slowly =] The guy working on it seems to be intent on creating Python and C prototypes at the same time and Python keeps giving him headaches =] Oh, the irony.

Anyways, he's developing the editor, the actual playback routines are being developed in conjunction with this Swedish guy, who is a mind blowingly awesome coder. His roots are in FatTracker/ImpulseTracker, and god knows what music proggies since then. I'm lead beta tester, and my roots are in Miggy OctaMED. I never really got into anything on the PC. So the play routines/file format is kind of a step up from IT and without too much luck I can sort of get the editor as functional as OctaMEDs... configurability/positioning is my #1 concern.

But anyways, enough waffle. The author plans to create a Max module for the playback routines, so you guys will definately hear more about it when the time comes.

That is welcome news - thanks Toby,

IPete2.
