From eurogamer... Personally I have no idea what this game is... But I've heard you lot chatter on about it occasionally.

Doom, BloodRayne, Silent Hill... Big screen game adaptations are big news these days, even if they are almost all completely rubbish.
Now it seems that the people behind Consolevania, the online games show which spawned BBC series videoGaiden, have acquired some movie rights of their very own.
Yes, next month, pre-production will begin on Hover Bovver: The Movie. Hover Bovver, for those of you who don't even know what cassettes are, was the work of loveable old hippy Jeff Minter (he's also the man behind Neon, the Xbox 360's crazy light synth thing).
The game, which was released in 1983 on Commodore 64, saw you playing as a bloke called Gordon Bennet who nicked a lawnmower off his neighbour. Your mission was to mow 16 lawns before the neighbour caught up with you, or before the screen went all blue and yellow and you had to rewind the tape and start again.
"We're delighted to have finally secured the rights to this property," said Consolevania's Robert Florence.
"It has always been a dream of mine to bring that loveable lawnmower-stealing rogue Gordon Bennet to the big screen, and I relish the challenge ahead."

Yeah I saw this press release yesterday.
A movie about mowing lawns... um... wow. You know, there's a reason why movie rights to Hover Bovver are still up for grabs more than 20 years after the game first appeared.
Yeh, I am down with this. You see if it remains perpendicular then you can see the element of surprise that constitutes perhaps what you already know - yet the colours are different and you don't have to leave so early for anyone else to understand perhaps it could be a bit better.

That sounds cool. I agree with Grey Alien that a movie about moving lawns couldn't possibly be any worse than TombRaider or one of Uwe Boll's movies...

Tomb Raider movies hmmmm ... not good. Has anyone seen that blantant U.S. rip off T.V. series called crypt raider or something? It has this women in it from Bill and Ted or something like it.

That sucked quite a lot as well.
Not as much as 'Hoover-man' did.
How about Braindead. There is a lot of lawnmowing in that, and it's a pretty cool film.
Then again I think Peter Jackson's first films Bad Taste, Braindead and Meet the Feebles are his best. Same goes for Spieldberg, anyone seen Duel?

Relic Hunter. And yes, Tia Carrere from Wayne's World. I've seen a few bits here and there while waiting for other programs and it seemed watchable for that kind of teen-audience comic-books-for-tv programs. I'd certainly take it over any reality tv show.

Screw you Grey.. Super Mario Bros was a great movie. Friggin genius. Go back and watch it again. It just seemed dumb at the time.
It's full of multidimentional characters and real slick addaptations of the source material. And those friggin jump boots rock.
You really need to focus to catch it all too.... I love that movie, it's sitting right on my shelf next to Supernova Total Recall and Hanger 18.

Has anyone noticed tha almost universally games based on movies are crap AND movies based on games are crap.

I love Consolevania, it's great. don't agree with many of their reviews but the game related comedy is what it's all about for me.
As far as I'm concerned the Consolevania lads deserve a Knighthood.

"Based on" in the sense of using the name, a few vaguely familar sets and not much else, from what I've seen. What makes Silent Hill stand out from other Survival Horror games, for me, is that it's very psychological, very much about atmosphere, and it's as much the mysterious plot which draws you in as anything else. I've a feeling the movie will ditch the mysterious plot for a typical "girl in peril" cliche and will ditch the psychlogical aspects for lots of gore and shocks.
Oh, and the lead actress looks a bit like the girl from one of the Silent Hill games. The guy's wife in SH2, I think.
