The plastic cover didn't protect the screen?
Speaking of which...need to open mine up to clean off a piece of dust inside that's been bugging me...best yet, there's the warrenty sticker right over the screw you unscrew to take the cover off....
Reminds me why I like my DS, clam-shell design works very well for protecting the screen, already got a few nicks on the outside itself, but then again I bring it everywhere, is to be expected.

Anyhoo, my personal recommendation would be to go with a steel casing for a PSP (if there are any steel cases made, just like they do for Pocket PCs). This way, if you do get that screen repaired (unless it's beyond repair, then I dunno what to say), that would be a great investment to protect your investment of the PSP. I'll see what Amazon has to help you out...

Yeah, it would seem clamshell is the best design for a portable gaming device. Having a permanantly exposed screen is just asking for trouble, IMO. Talking of clamshell, the new iPod-ized Nintendo DS looks nice - it's got better quality screens and is smaller than the original, I think.
