Got Quake 4 for £9.99 Today

Well the title says it all. It was used of course but I don't care about that. Once I put it through the company to reclaim the VAT and Tax it'll cost around £6.80 yay.

No to find the time to play it ...

I feel a bit like a stamp collector at the moment, got all these cool games that I got checp from GameStation, Game or ebay etc yet they are just sitting in a lonesome unplayed pile, sniff :-(

Dunno if it's smart to re-release games cheap after some years. Ofcourse, it's good news for the buyer/player, but you run the risk that ppl play warez-versions in the first years and later on buy the cheap re-release. It's what happens with CD's and DVD's as well. When ppl notice that the retailprice *always* drops after some time, ppl will wait for that moment. When ppl wait, there's a substantial risk of ppl using the warez-version of it.

Exactly "CS_TBL", which is why games get so over-hyped. They offset that with the 'must rush out and buy it' syndrome.

I buy computer magazines every month - I witness the over-hyping year after year.

Grey, you may be able to write off even more than VAT. If you're a self employed programmer, you have a "research & development" option to put items against.

For myself I don't usually bother buying the latest games right away for several reasons. It's got nothing to do with wares, they are just too dang expensive at first!

By waiting a bit they are considerably cheaper, but most importantly, by waiting I can actually PLAY them on my computer without having to play the upgrade game also.

I only bother upgrading every 3-4 years or so, and it's not very enjoyable to play a new game on a system that can't run it smoothly.

I don't have much money but I save, spend and enjoy. Waiting and plotting all your life for a bargain is gonna ruin the enjoyment of today.

Qube I looked into that R&D thing. the thing is you ahve to be doing something that furthers the technology, and not just for yourself. Someone like Indie path can very well claim that but I'm not sure just writing games cuts it... My accountant was dubious too. I'd love to do it though, although this year I don't really have many profits (after salaries and expenses) to write off expenses at 150% against. Last year I made much more money cos I did more contracting, this year I've spent too lonf making games!!!
