do you need graphics for your project?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/do you need graphics for your project?

Im looking to work with someone on a games project. But I say this without trying to sound too cheeky- Im not interested in experimental projects, I want to make finished results. Ideally Im looking to try sell something - e.g. I figure the small games market is thriving - (I see you can play to win cash these days!) I love most genres, cept for turnbase stuff, but I wouldnt want to make a big game because I think its unrealitic for a few people. Ive done 3 small free games with a team of Delphi coders who let me down on several occasions... But our first project has had over 30,000 downloads. We knew we werent the dogs bollox, but I was forever making graphics and they were forever abandoning code to go with. Hence, I want to help the right people.

Sorry if this sounds like a CV...

Im an amateur blitz coder, but im not bad as a graphic artist and Im a good musician and can use tons of audio software - play guitar, (Metallica, Megadeth n the likes) and have written tons of electronic music. I started making games on the Speccy & Commode back in the day, and have always kept one eye on the games scene.

I learnt how to make Dukenuke, Quake1,2, Q3 maps and use shaders back when Q3 was big (never liked Unreal, so never edited it) - even done some paying project work for a guy in London building VR environments in the Q3 engine of real places. (one for BT). Sold 2 of those and sold a Q3 Deathmatch map for a new company who was hosting a comp. But I realise Q3Maps are a bit pointless for selling your Blitz project. (unless the license has changed recently) - but its a skill I have.

Im crap with Studio Max (hate it, but can use it basically) - but Im pretty good at Milkshape. CharacterFX animation, and PaintShopPro for skins, textures, etc - I dont use Photoshop much because i find PSP does it a lot easier and is friendlier.

Last thing I did was a paid demo for a 3D mobile phone game which was basically having to build characters at 200 polys and animate them to fight! Nightmare.. (last November).

I can show anyone interested some of my work and blitz projects. Only 1 finished game in blitz, but graphically it suffered because the code ate my head space and I conceded that coding and making graphics at the same time doesnt work for me.

Anyone interested in working together at a steady pace, please email me at paulomars@...

Sorry for the ramble.

Oh well.. that's me counted out for two reasons then.

I am always looking for graphics help, but I mainly only write puzzle, and turnbased strategy games. Since I only release freeware, I can rarely find an artist willing to work for free.

Have a portfolio handy?

Sorry Gabriel, just trying to be upfront. :)

Kuron - Ive done tons of work for free, and I would do it again. Its always nice to be paid, but its not the main driving force.

E, I'll email you a link.

Cheers,
Paulo

Or you could just post it here so you won't have to e-mail the link to all interested parties.

No problem. The upside to not being able to find people to work with is that you don't have to share the profits.
