Thanks Sune & others for the info. Good luck with sales!

Thanks for keeping a place where this stuff is all out in the open :)

So is this a success for them or not? $60,000 spread over 6 people and 2.5 years of work makes me depressed. Tribal trouble looks so polished for an indy effort. It seems like geez, you struggle to make a game thats got much higher production values than a typical indy title, yet you still come out behind in terms of effort vs profit.

I'm not saying this to be negative, just thinking objectively here.

Hey that's not bad. The game hasn't been out very long either. Give them some time ... downloadable games like this keep making money over the long haul unlike mainstream games. Marble Blast apparently, makes just as much per week now (probably a lot more since it hit Xbox 360) as it did in the beginning. They'll bring in money from that game for another 2.5 years or more. Once they build a nice portfolio of games then they're set.

Feel for those guys but the figures aren't close to what they need. It is a total failure. You can't live on $4,000 per year, which is what it works out as if everyone gets paid the same.

for the length of time it's been out, if i can get as many sales, and since i'm a one man team, i'd be satisfied...

even though i've spent years on this 'obsession' of mine, the alternative would be to come up with nothing to show... yeah, i'll settle for the 60K...

Wasn't this game built with Torque game builder?

No its java. And 3d at that ;)

I would be happy if I got one sale....it shows that at least one person likes my game....but thats just how hopeless i am....

yeah its a java game engine, was looking at it the other day. Was hoping it was done with Torque as it is different to the games you usualy get from the torque engines which always have a certain look and feel.

$60k is about average sallary around here, hope they keep the sales going, I don't think the game has been out more than 3 months.

Hi guys - I think they're doing nicely with this. It was launched April last year from the web info (on the end of that link). They took 2.5 years to develop it with 4 staff and 2 freelancers, whcih One Eyed quite rightly points out thats not a lot of dosh for so much hard work.

Having said that some of that time they were setting up their company and doing office type stuff and they are going to keep reaping the rewards from the game for a long while yet BUT most importantly they have their FIRST game UNDER THEIR BELT.

That is the best news about this type of thing, they've shown they CAN do it and they have a commercial success.

100,000 downloads - of which 1500 converted into sales
400 portal sales
650 Danish boxe sales
(and unknown German sales).

Look at their figures they are there for all to see and make interesting reading.

Thanks for the link btw PP.

IPete2.

yeah it's a cool report. 100,000 downloads, I presume from their own website (i.e. excluding portals) is great! Also, although they haven't made much money, the company is still a "newish" company and many companies make a loss for a few years before finally making money. They have now made a profit (if you exclude what their "real" salaries should be) and are more experienced for sure, so let's see what they do next. First order of the day I would think is to make a BETTER game in LESS time :-)

Ah, I had never heard of them till Garage Games started publishing tribal trouble, so I assumed it was 3-4 months.

Yeah its a nice game, but at $29 its possibly too pricey for a download game imho

Don't forget that 60k is before expenses! Still, well done to them.

$29 wow. thats a lot. I played the demo and didn't consider buying it expecting it to be in the $15 - $20 range.

Actually... I lied in the title ;)

$60 is not total sales... is net revenue. But saying "$60 000 net income" would bring opinions like.. umm 'what's a net income?' :)

So... the sales are actually more than $60K... and what was left (I presume for salaries etc.) was that $60K.

Anyway. It's a nice start for them.

It is not only for download. Just saw it last week in a major media store here in Germany.
