Socket 478 motherboard with PCI-e 16x

I'm looking to upgrade my system from AGP 8x to PCI-e 16x. I currently have an Asus P4C800-e Deluxe motherboard and a P4 3.2 Ghz. I'm more than happy with the CPU, so I only need to replace the motherboard ideally (and get an X1900XT).

Can anyone recommend a high performance socket 478 motherboard with PCI-e? It looks like they're a dying breed...

I realllllly think you are going to have to start looking at socket 775. I don't think 478 supported PCI-E or didn't do it correctly as I did find a super-micro board that had a couple slots. But even that specifically stated that they weren't running full speed.

But when you can't find any of the big names (I looked at asus and abit) that have one you have to assume the worst.

I found one - An Asus P4GPL-X. I believe it's been discontinued but I tracked one down. I've read that it works just fine with the latest X1900XT cards and is based on Intel's 915PL chipset.

Two more quick questions:

My Antec Sonata silent case came with a "True 380w PSU". Do these new bleeding edge video cards required a more powerful PSU than the one I have?

Do PCI-E video cards require a different/dedicated power connector from the PSU?

the back of my 7800GTX boxes suggest 400 watt power supply for one card and at least 500 for two.

With the high end agp cards, they use the 4 pin molex connector. With the pci-e cards, they either use a 6 pin connector from the psu or a dongle that comes with the card to plug in two 4 pin molex connectors.

I would get a larger psu.
