Who do you think'll win the next-gen console war?

Well, it's that time again, with three big consoles on the line with each other, the first of the next-gens are out (the X360), and the other two are on the way (Nintendo Revolution and PS3). Now, with that in mind... Which one of these do you see as being the top console, and which one you do WANT to win? Consider the following categories in your decision:

What do you mean by "win"? Most consoles/games sold? Most money made?

But whatever, I'd image things will go pretty much the same way as the last round, perhaps with XBox 360 taking a bigger market share than it's predecessor. Just guessing, though.

TBH, I don't think any of them will 'fail'. I know GameCube lagged behind somewhat last time, but I certainly don't consider it a failure. I doubt Nintendo do, either.

I don't think there's gonna be a winner or a looser per se between MS and Sony. Both will sell a crapload of consoles and games.

So it all comes down to the games and what console has them.

Right now, i'm sticking with MS PC games and XBox360.
Ms has the game types that cather to me.. Networked games. :)

I think Cygnus will win

As long as none of them goes tits up, it doesn't matter. I hope all of them do okay, no clear winner. If that happens Cygnus will actually be the winner as he'll have more games and consoles to choose between. :-)

I think it's kind of pointless to speculate until the other two consoles are out, but what the heck.

I'm personally waiting for the PS3. As of yet I have nothing that will actually make me want to buy it, but I like my ps2 over xbox, so I'm expecting that to probably continue. I was a SEGA fan myself, and when the Dreamcast died it was a sad day for me. I had all but decided to go with XBOX over the "evil" Sony, but then the games I wanted to play never came, and I ultimately bought a PS2. I see the same thing happening with this current next gen.

I think all of them could lose this time around,... The tech has been pushed out perhaps a bit early (and therefore expensive to produce) And people are mostly happy with the current gen. Add to that the astronomical cost increases required to build a next-gen title, and game costs are rising to the point where they need guaranteed hits every time, and that means sequels,... lots and lots of sequels.

Nintendo has itself in a unique position with originality, but I'm very concerned about their past track record of very few titles for their systems.

Anyways, the system that makes the games I want to play will get my money. I have a 360 at work, but so far no interest in buying one for home.

Well as others have stated I will be buying for the games that appeal to me the most although I think Nintendo may just suprise everyone with the Revolution.

Since buying a DS and PSP I can honestly say that despite intial impressions of the two handhelds I spend so much more time with the DS as it`s simply a lot more fun which is what Nintendo has always stood for and looks set to continue unlike it`s rivals who fight it out to see who`s is bigger and better each new generation.

And the thought of playing all those old greats also does it for me. Sega have now been added to the list of companies who are going to be putting thier old titles up for download which can only be a good thing for Nintendo.

'eh, dont know who'll win, but I will say that Microsoft really does have the edge by having their system out months before the other two will, which gives them time to reinforce the game selection, and improve the system via updates, while PS3 & Nintendo will have to hope their systems dont have major issues from the get-go.
(I can see PS3 having overheating issues for one thing, which was a bit of a problem with some XBX360's on initial release)

Dont really give a damn who'll win here, as I cant afford to pay for the price the XBX360/PS3 games are/will be asking, I be opting for the Rev here as it appears to be a crapload more affordable in terms of the hardware, & software, more-so for the fact I dont own an HDTV.

Yeah, that's certainly gonna be something. Now that Sega's going to have their classics on the *gasp* Nintendo Revolution, that's gonna be something that'll be a Cinderella story right there. You know how big of rivals Nintendo and Sega were back during the days when the Genesis and SNES were at war. Same thing's true with the Saturn vs. N64, and DreamCast vs. PS2 (which Sega lost big time, sorry to say). However, now's probably the time for Sega to kiss and make up the wazoo to Nintendo after all these years of rivalry, and having their games on the Revolution will do just that. Sonic AND Mario on the same game console? Now THAT'S the Cinderella story I'm talking about.

PC gets my vote here. PC will most likely win on my personal perspective of things. Consoles life cycle is too long and publishers often play it too safe for the sake of bug free games.

I prefer PC games, despite the constant patching... I think it has the advantage that the PC developers can put the extra effort without the worry of platform QA testing.

Can't wait for Total War Medeival 2 to come out :)

Oh, I am just drooling over that one. I simply won't get
my degree if that comes out before I graduate.

If this game takes the great setting of Medeival:Total
war and adds the great gameplay of Rome:Total war
and gets rid of some of the bugs, I will become a hermit.

It's a horrifically simple fact. My life will cease to exist outside of my home.

As a side note, will those new consoles have VGA ports? I don't have a TV, but the Revolution sounds kind of interesting. Would be nice to run it on my computer screen.

I think Playstation has to make up the ground lost to 360 being released earlier, and would be better of being at a lower price tag with *2* Cell processors by default.

Assuming that Sony is able to get their act together, I am assuming it will be neck and neck, with 40 to PS3, 40 to Xbox, and 20 to Nintendo. I don't consider PC to be the same as a console, so it is not included.

I actually hope that no side "wins" though, because competition drives the market and it really doesn't help us the consumer if anyone wins. I want them fighting neck and neck to make us happy.

The one thing I fear is that the PS3 will be a disaster. Sony said they were not intested in online-services a few months ago, then they decided that online services were going to be a big part of the console... which means basicly they decided to add the entire online service component at the last minute. None of the game developers have recieved a finalized development machine yet, and the developers who have talked publicly about it are not impressed with the PS3. I saw the graphic demos, and was not impressed. With all the delays and everything, and analysts saying that the machine will cost $1200 bucks on release, and adding a blu-ray DVD that gamers don't really care about... it is possible that the Sony machine might be a total disaster, which I know Xbox 360 will not be (because it is out), and I know the Nintendo machine will not be (because Nintendo doesn't compete with other machines on pure technical features).

Sony really has the most to lose with this round, they are trying to push very new tech, and it is at a very high cost to them. Plus, the potential backlash of BlueRay DRM stuff is there as well. I will be quite upset if I am unable to play HD quality off an HD player, simply because my HDTV is 2 years old and doesn't support the current DRM. Lots of panic being pushed around in that area, so I'll take a wait-and-see approach to see what happens.

PC as a gaming system is really hard for me. I've grown quite tired and wary of the liscense procedures for many games, and taking up 10 gigs of hard drive space seems a bit excessive, especially since the CD/DVD is still required to be in the drive.

I guess in the end it all comes down to whoever ticks me off the least!

Oh and Drew,... I work as a GFX artist in an animation studio. Lots of free time while waiting for renders and such, so we have to do something to pass the time! Also nice for the clients when they come over and are waiting for me to finish things.

I think Microsoft will end up in a dead heat with Sony this time at least here in the States. Sony has a lot of fan boys but Microsoft's system is really tight. I think Nintendo will do well ... but only as a secondary system. I think they are positioning themselves to be sold alongside the other systems. There's a chance the big N will move more systems than either Microsoft or Sony. I just saw the specs for the Rev and it looks really really meager. It seems that they are going for a $150 or less price point because it's only marginally more powerful than the Gamecube.

Seeing how successful the DS has been I can see that Nintendo has a point ... more powerful isn't always better. Some people really just want fun little diversions.

Of course ... maybe people still aren't ready for a 'revolution' and Sony will win, followed by MS, followed by Nintendo. It's impossible to say but I do think MS is in a better position this time then they were with the original Xbox. Even if they don't beat Sony they're going to be a lot closer.

...I think Muk or Puki will win :))
