Anyone stateside (sorry guys) want to buy an FX55 cpu? I'd be willing to take 500 dollars for it (it's still 800 on pricewatch). I'll even throw in the motherboard (it's a socket 939 ABiT but it's AGP, not PCI-E).

Think I'm gonna go Athlon 64 X2 4800, Asus A8N SLI Premium and dual 7800GTXs. Mmmmmmmmm.

I've got an 3800x2 clocked at 2.5 GHZ which reaches temps of 35C on AIR.

It's a sweet spot. Ram is ballistix and is running 2.5-3-3-8 and at 500mhz (it's pc4000 ram).

I burned the system in with both cores doing torture tests all night long ... not a single problem.

In comparison this thing is way better than 4800x2 and closing in on the FX-60 :) All for... £190.
By the way... Does superpi in 31 seconds.

Keep your *LAME* FX-55 :)

I do a lot of video stuff and general multitasking... I think I'll benefit from the dual cores a lot more than sticking with the fx55. I'll see a small hit on games, but that'll more than be made up for by going from a single 7800GS to a dual 7800GTX setup. :)

I'm having difficulties with a buddy's system I'm building. He bought the 3800X2 and a gig of corsair ram. I get it to spin up fans and drives but it doesn't post. Bout to rip out my hair. :)

Make sure ram is seated correctly. You only need 3 things: ram, graphics and cpu. make sure all power to mobo is in: cpu power, motherboard power, graphics card power :)

The x2 chips are really great. They actually do speed up everyday tasks as well - even single threaded apps because both cores share everything, even os tasks. It's much faster... love it.

Gotta get one dude. Btw: here's how I performed the overclock:

Ram is 250mhz / 500mhz / PC4000 capable (so to handle the FSB/HT overclock by 50 or 500mhz.

So...

Leave ram as it, clock Hypertransport down to 4x, and ramp cpu multiplier up from 200 to 250, this brings Hypertransport back up to 5x.

Thats why it's so unbelievably stable @ 2.5. Hope you get that pc working.

Dude I know the feeling, make sure the PSU is good too. I've have replaced whole motherboards just to find out it was a bad or low powered PSU.

Might be worth resetting the CMOS, too.

[edit] And make sure the BIOS chip is seated properly.

I'm just going to haul it up to the place we got the parts from and let them figure out which part is "naff" as you brits say. :)

In the meantime... My parts are ordered for overnight delivery. Woot. :)
