XBox 360 Games

Okay I finally broke down and bought an XBox 360 ( http://www.lowestdeal.com/xbox360complete.html ). I was waiting for the PS3 but it looks like it may never get here.

Anyway, I was wondering what games you all like and why so I know what to go get. I'm enjoying Perfect Dark Zero so far.

Well, I didn't like Perfect Dark Zero (but each to their own). The games I have bought are:

Kameo Elements of Power - Excellent game, lots of fun, 15 hours to complete (including finding everything)

Call of Duty 2 - The BEST FPS on any console, ever - 12 hours to complete (I kind of rushed some of the levels though)

Burnout Revenge - Jaw dropping arcade racer, lots of fun, lots to unlock, only played about 4 or so hours so far, hopefully won't get boring

Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion - I'll just let you read the many other threads regarding this game, but 2 hours in (barely scratched the surface of the surface!) and already great fun, awesome DEEP role playing game

Demos I've played:

Fight Night Round 3 - Amazing looking game, great fun for 5 minutes but not my kind of game. Supposedly the best boxing game ever though.

Quake 4 - Pants. PC version of Quake 3 was better! Awful controls and current (not next) generation graphics.

Project Gotham Racing 3 - Excellent racer, superb graphics, more serious gameplay (handles more like simulation than arcade) than Burnout Revenge, worth buying if you are into racing games

Full Auto - It wants to be Burnout Revenge. It's not. It's absolutely awful! Average graphics, terrible gameplay.

The Outfit - I didn't like it at all. I didn't give it *much* of a chance, but it felt slow and tedious compared to Call of Duty 2. Maybe I missed the point, or wasn't in the mood for a "thinking man's FPS", but it wasn't my cup of tea.

FIFA Football 2006 - FIFA 2006 on the Nintendo DS is excellent, so very playable and just feels great. This is the opposite. Nice graphics, flawed gameplay. Wait for a different game if you are into footie.

NBA Live 2006 - I downloaded this for a laugh, as I'm not into basketball games, but it was kind of fun. Still not my "thing", but if you are into basketball then it might be worth getting. Excellent graphics.

Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion

Are definately on my list. :)

Avon brought his 360 to ours a couple of weeks ago with Call Of Duty 2 - I have to say that I have never experienced anything quite so intense as the single player missions in that game - wonderfully involving and very dramatic.

We also had a look at Kameo - a lovely game with typical Rare style and flare.

Perfect Dark did look a little plain compared.

Seems a lot of folk didn't like perfect dark zero, mainly because they really liked the first perfect dark. I've never played it and haven't owned a console machine in a long long time, maybe that's why I'm enjoying it.

COD2, I played on a demo machine at a store and that's kind of what got me going on buying the thing. Can't wait to pick it up and play it on my big screen at home.

How does Burnout Revenge comapre to Project Gotham Racing? I got PGR with the package.

Burnout Revenge is manic - an arcade racer with arcade type controls. It's very fast, fun and furious. I love the total carnage you can cause in this game!

PGR 3 is still fast, and good fun to a point, but handles more like a simulation game (i.e. more realistic steering and physics). As far as I remember there is no vehicle damage though, which is a shame.

If you love racing games then there is definitely room for both titles to be in your collection.

It's a lot...faster. Why not try the demo? You can download it from the Marketplace.

Personally I'm really into the Live Arcade games, Geometry Wars and Bankshot Billiards in particular.

Good point Simon, I forgot about the Live Arcade games. I also recommend Marble Blast Ultra and Mutant Storm Reloaded.

In my opinion, the only GREAT game for Xbox 360 is Oblivion. I waited to purchase an Xbox 360 until Oblivion came out, because frankly before that there just wasn't anything that good. Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter was OK, but the online play (which is why I purchased it in the first place), is pretty clunky - hard to find a match - etc.

For up and coming games tho, I am really looking forward to Dead Rising (It is cool to see a game using the next gen hardware for something other than better eyecandy... the game uses the extra processing power to put 100-200 zombies on the screen, with individual AI, all at the same time... the graphics aren't much better than Xbox, but just having so many creatures on the screen at once, and all of them fully interacting with each other, is amazing!)

I don't have a net connection at home right now so I'll be missing out on that stuff for the time being. :(

If I brought the box to work and connected can I download those games onto my xbox hard drive and then play them at home?

Yep. It stores them to the hard drive and you don't need an active net connection to play the single player ones.


I would lean towards agreeing with that statement. Kameo, Call of Duty 2 and Burnout Revenge are all excellent, but Oblivion is a bit special. :)

That's quite a list Avon. Hey, COD2 is really good on PC, is it better/different on Xbox360 then (apart from aiming with a controller)?

I haven't yet tried it on PC although when I get some cash I will! I suspect that the mouse control will be better.

Don't forget Geometry Wars ... it's reason enough for me to own the 360! Fight Night rocks too!

Full Auto is GOOD. Well I think so anyway - it may be a 'love it or hate it' game. It takes some skill to get it right because you're playing a driving game and a shooting game at the same time with one controller. Conversely I thought the COD2 demo sucked monkey balls.

Project Gotham is fantastic.

Perfect Dark - at first I didn't like the way it handled because I was too used to Halo2, but it grew on me - fast.

Geometry Wars - what can I say? I've probably played this twice as much as any other game. Horribly addictive. Like pixellated crack.

Oh, Burnout Revenge is basically a port from old Xbox with some added FX and a few more crash junctions. Still a great game, but I can't wait until they do a Burnout game specifically for next gen. I didn't buy it because I'd already completed it on Xbox1.

Yeah I was really disappointed by Burnout ... # 3 was enough for me.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Condemned? I haven't
played it personally, but my roommate (who has
frustratingly-high standards for games) keeps going on and
on about it.

It sounds like a blast from what I've heard and read about it.
