Casual Game forums
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Casual Game forums
Does anyone know of any forums where players of casual games get together to discuss them? I could google I guess but wanted to ask around first. I want to get on them and make a post about Easter Bonus to drive more traffic to the site.
thanks in advance.
no, I go there all the time, that's a developer forum, not a gamers' forum at all. Very few of those people actually buy games (although a few did buy Xmas Bonus - cos it was clearly so good ;-))
I'd be surprised if there were any forums where casual gamers hang out regularly. To me, the term 'casual gamer' means someone that doesn't take their gaming so seriously as to want to talk about games on a forum.
Also, this demographic tend to be mostly middle aged women, I think. They're probably more likely to be found chatting on IRC, rather than using forums, I'd guess. There are many sites where you can play web games for fun (bingo, quiz games, etc.) which have built-in chat. These tend to be populated almost exclusively by this demographic. I guess you could try pimping on a few of those. :)
You won't find any gamer forums for casual gamers, as big10p said forums and casual gamers don't go together.
I was beginning to suspect that, oh well...
maybe I should make some IRC bots ...
I agree with big10P - casual and discussion forums are a contradiction in terms.
What you could try are sites backed by well known companies that newbies would find easily - like Microsoft:

Hehe, I was thinking about that, also. Just don't get caught! :)

"So I says to Mabel: my hot flashes are really a problem, but I take my mind off of them by playing EASTER BONUS which I downloaded at invalid database table lookup: greyalien.chatbot%field2. It's really fun!"
:)
lol.
<sexy_moreen>Hi babe
<sexy_mable>Hi babe
<sexy_greyalien>Hi all babes
<sexy_greyalien>I am having so much fun playing EASTER BONUS...
<sexy_greyalien>It's better than sex, you really should try it... er, babe.
Try the Real Arcade forums.
lol, that IRC stuff is funny.
Anyway Steve Elliott: I really want to get Easter Bonus on MSN, but they haven't replied yet according to the publisher. There doesn't seem to be a forum on that site though :-(
Simonh: Well Real are being a teeny bit negative about my game right now so if they don't sell it, I don't know if I should big it up in their forums. However, PERHAPS I BLOODY WELL SHOULD!
Real are being a teeny bit negative about my game right now
Really? Why? I guess coz they see it as 'just another match 3 game'?
Big10p: Actually I'm not 100% sure how much I should say due to NDA, or if I've said too much (but I don't think the publisher will mind as they've done their best; I'll retract this statement if need be). But yeah it's the "it's another match-3", "too seasonal" and "not well produced enough" tripple whammy. The not well produced enough gets me as I thought it was pretty good. I gotta see what crap they put up instead of my game.
Perhaps the trend is for "realistic" or 3D rendered graphics these days not wicked pixel art, sigh. This is why I'm investigating Blitz Max a lot more now, for fancy effects which, guess what, add NOTHING to gameplay - but if they boost sales I just gotta do them then, sigh.
Anyway, watch this space as when if starts to shift on Big Fish and Reflexive, we'll got back to real and go "Get Real dudes, take the game".
I'd try the gamefaqs forums, then you can find a forum to a particular game and even the format too. Then you know you're going to get total conversation about the game only.
Oberon are handling the MSN and Yahoo stuff, sit tight :D
ENAY: Do you mean start a thread about my game on the forum?
Indiepath: ooh I'm excited now, fingers crossed.
think you would be lucky to find a IRC forum frequented by casual gamers. Most are almost but not technophobes.
My wife hangs out on certain forums, but thats because she's interested in news, politics, and countering certain types of prejudice that has cropped up of late.
Also the forums on amazon book reviews. She mostly plays bejeweled and the free games that come with XP. But has completed NOLF, the first vampire the masquarade game, and broken sword 3. Other than that she watched me play story based games, currently nagging me to play Oblivion.
Oh yeah Sorry. I only read the first sentence. :)
doh :-) well i could try what I said anyway.
ha ha i wish my wife would nag me to play RPG's
I used to play (computer) games with my current partner (and last partner) but since having kids she's always to tired. She used to play Baldur's Gate etc with me and help me plan strategies for big fights. She even played through that 3D Indy game that was good. Also we've done two player Baldurs: Dark Alliance on PS2. I want to rekindle the lurve of (computer) games as it's great to play (games) with other people.
