I'm at the GDC, getting ready to head home. It was a very good experience. We brought a few CDs and a brochure, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I talked to people from NVidia, ATI, Ageia, GarageGames, Beyond Virtual, Spine 3D, Autodesk, and more. We'll definitely have a booth there next year.
There was a lot of technology there that was sub-par to Blitz3D, and the games and programs made with it, but they were making money because they were visible and involved. Companies flew in their displays from Germany, Canada, and even Russia. The importance of networking, and being involved in the industry cannot be understated.
The crowd was about 50/50 professionals, and then the Dungeons & Dragons crowd. I really recommend looking professional if you go to something like that. It seems like tech people have the idea that they should be able to look sloppy and still be taken seriously, but those people got snubbed at every turn.
A lot of online developers seem really bored and negative. Then I go to something like this and see a lot of inferior products make money, because they are clearly visible and supported. I really recommend getting out there and making your product visible. You can't conquer the world from your basement.
