My new website. Wanna trade links?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/My new website. Wanna trade links?
Hi all, I finally finished a "proper" Grey Alien Games website today (cos the old one was just a black screen with pictures on!). Big thanks to Steve Campbell for preparing the initial php template.
Please take a look and if you are interested in me linking to your site in exchange for a link to
http://www.greyaliengames.com on your site, please let me know. I might not want to link to everything that comes my way, just vaguely relevant stuff.
Anyway, check it out and play some of my games if you haven't already. Feedback is welcome of course. This site isn't supposed to be super-duper, just clean looking and simple.
Nice simple, clean, fast site, Grey. Just a couple points:
- Viewed at 800x600 in IE, I get a horizontal scrollbar because the page is about 20-30 pixels too wide. It's no biggy, just a tad annoying to have to use the scrollbar to scroll by such a small amount.
- I got a BSOD when I clicked on the "Pharoah's Curse" link. However, this is probably an issue at my end, with my shonky install of win98SE.

LOL! I can't be the only one to find that funny?
Grey, I'll take a look when I get home. I'd like to trade links. £50 for one?

lol. It didn't even occur to me, until you pointed it out. :P
Clean, simple and easy. Nice work :)
The one thing I'd change is the paypal donate button on the contact page and add it to the free games instead.
thanks guys.
Yeah Big10p I had considered that in 800x600 it might have a puny scroll bar, so I wonder what the optimium page width is for an 800x600 browser at full screen? Probably 768ish wide when taking into account scrollbar and window edges.
Qube: I guess I could leave the donate button there and add it to the free games page as well. Or did you mean, add to each free game text? To be honest I'm not really expecting anyone to donate but you never know!
Yeah I'll put a link on Indiepath.com just tell me what to say.
wooo, just something along the lines of "free downloadable PC games and demos" or something. It occurs to me that I really ought to make a small banner or something. I'll look into that now.
Do you think this is OK as a banner or should I do something else, perhaps with screenshots, game names on? I note that most banners are more rectangular. I could do one with jsut the name and loose the UFO, if the ufo goes much smaller it'll probably look crap.
christ that's a lot of links. Well just use "free downloadable PC games and demos" please, that'll do fine. So what do you want me to put on my links page?
I just use text as well with a little description of what it's all about... Most links are pretty meaningless without being told what it's all about.

yeah the description works well. Of course a picture/banner says a lot too.
Sorry, but I don't like it. It's too square, especially for an alien website. It should be rounder and have jaggie edges, like this:
Grey: Weren't you looking to make (or have made) a new logo because the license for the free (and cool) one you have specifically forbids the use of it as a logo? Or have I totally got the wrong end of the pineapple?
And have you had any issues with the cross-atlantic changes in spelling for grey/gray? Might it be worth your while to snaffle www.grayaliengames.com as well, and redirect it to yours?
pharaoh is the spelling btw
Grey: Nice logo. I like the addition of the dog. :-)
Wolron: at the moment it's a tongue in cheek "Grey Alien", sorta 50s silly sci-fi, i.e. family feel, not gut rending, acid spraying, phallic aliens, I'm going for. But I take your point.
LineOf7s: The logo text is mine so no worries there. The original UFO did have a licence restriction so I got it remade, with changes, in a similar style to avoid hassle. Some people said it wasn't different enough, but I think it's OK. I had considered if "Grey" was wise as if I get known, people might type Gray into search engines, but really the games are mnore important than the company name.
I might reduce the logo size a bit today and increase the menu size.
