UK people- Oblivion available as a legal download!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/UK people- Oblivion available as a legal download!
http://www.direct2drive.com/376/product/The-Elder-Scrolls-IV:-Oblivion-w/-Manual
Oh my god - plus, it is in US dollars, so it is going to be cheaper to download than to buy it (I assume) - plus you get the manual too as a download.
It is dawning on me that I can play it a day early.
EDIT:
It will cost £28.66 - pretty good.
I need a volunteer to try this first though then report back.

GO ON! You just know you're itching to do it first.
Down a load of bacon and get stuck in there lad!
BAH!
I went for it - but right after it took my c.c. number and details it stated: 'You are not in a country that can download The Elder Scrolls IV'
Sniffage.
Ah well, you'll just have to part with your hard earned cash.
Or lie!
Heh, wait a minute. There is a way round this.
I need a volunteer in the US to pay for it on their c.c. then give me the download links, etc.
"sswifty" - are you there? Your son needs you.
Now That's tempting....
Yeah, just need to find an American gullible enough to buy a game for you and pay for the game on their credit card. :)
In fact, wait a minute.
If this is available as a legal download - then someone has surely uploaded this elsewhere. I could download it for free and play it today then buy the thing tomorrow when it is released.
Everyone is happy - I get a game and pay for it, the developer, publisher and retailer get their money - I just play it free for one day.
You can even do some programming instead, in that 'one day'. :)
lol... poor puki
I would be exactly the same but for the fact that I'm broke, and have to save up for a while to get Oblivion. But I will get it! :)
Yeah. I'd download it too, except there seems to be a problem with the direct2drive version not actually working, and the Internet is so rediculously bad down here, that waiting anouther day, and buying it in a store would be quicker. Hell, waiting a whole week would probably be quicker.
Heh, there was one in Computer Exchange yesterday, I went in today, theyre saying they dont have it. Cruel marketting!
Computer Exchange (CEX) suck. Staffed by losers and liars. But otherwise they're pretty good. ;)
Agreed.
You ever called their customer support?
Go on, call it. You'll laugh your socks off within about 2 seconds.
if you have anything pressing to do before you play... do it... cause you'll forget... in the last 2 days.. I've put 24 hours into the game not including dies and reloads (maybe another hour hour and a half)
so... half my time was spent playing the game... the rest, eating, sleeping, typing online (like now) and thinking about the game.... I'm only breaking now to sleep...
This games gets more and more fantastic as I get deeper and deeper into it....
you could have used a proxy server as well probably... :)

Doubt it. Why bother ID'ing countries from IP when people have to enter their credit card details anyway?

It never ceases to amaze me that a forum full of developers and wannabe developers has the exact same "grey area" mentality when it comes to piracy.
Would you mind if someone downloaded your software and then paid for it next day?
I'll assume you're asking me since I don't think Puki has any games for sale at the moment.
If I hadn't explicitly given them permission to do so? Hell yes, I'd mind. That's exactly what I'm talking about with grey areas. Once you find a level between white and black, well it's all shades of grey, isn't it? I'll pay tomorrow, I'll pay when I get a chance to go into town, I'll pay on payday, I'll pay when I have some spare cash, I'll pay when I've confirmed the game's worth buying. I fundamentally fail to see why people think that intangible goods such as music, software, movies, etc where you're buying an IP license rather than the media should be treated differently from other goods. You think the local BMW dealership is gonna let me drive away with a new car with no more than a "I'll come back and pay tomorrow"? Neither do I.
Of course, its a moot point, since all my games have play-before-you-pay versions, thus I specifically give people permission to play before they pay, but I do so by my choice and on my terms. Bethesda do not.
Just a note, but www.play.com are selling it for £24.99 delivered.
Cheers

I agree with gabriel....why don't you ask Bethesda permission... They might actually give it to you provided you tell them where you downloaded it ;)
Life is not Black and White. Personally, I'd take the software pirate who pays me, over the one that doesn't any day. I realise that fighting piracy is a moot effort, for a number of reasons, I've gone over a hundred times already. What matters isn't how many paying customers you don't have, what matters is how many paying customers you have.
XBox 360 Oblivion - £39.99 from Tesco (UK). Picking mine up tonight! Woooooooooo... etc.
£39.99!?!??????
I just went to grab mine- couldn't wait so was going to pay £32.99. went to the counter, pulled out my card. wait! Where's my card?
D'OH!!!!
So now I have to wait....
£39.99!?!??????
Er... I did say that was the XBox 360 version - and £39.99 is as cheap as it gets (even matches Play.com).
Thats still more than a game's worth :P
Oblivion may be different, i dont know :)
My previous post was directed at the community (and passing rabbits*), not anyone particularly here. Life is full of grey areas. If you want to act like a flippin' robot, you go right ahead.
I have a glimmer of hope that the human race is not going to descend into totalitarianism, with everything controlled. The sort of people that further that cause... well, let's not forget what happened to the Golgafrinchans.
* if the rabbit was able to read.
Well, I lasted the extra day and bought the legit version.
I am going to bed now to read the manual.
Plus, I got a horse - he's sleeping in a stable.
...I have a missing card.... :'(
If you want to act like a flippin' robot, you go right ahead.
It does seem that only robots ( and apparently Puki since he maintained his self control and did the right thing ) know the difference between right and wrong these days, yes. Pardon me if I don't celebrate the slow disintegration of society tho.
Who are the Golgafrinchans?
:)
Cheers
