Logo Creation

I'm having problems creating a logo for my site. I'm trying to use the GIMP, but it's not turning out that well. The logo background is simply a yellow-green gradient, and the text "no enemies" is dark green with a transparent highlight on the top to make it look shiny, and then a white border. For some reason whenever I do the border, it turns out all blury.

What other (free) programs are better for logo creation? Or are there any GIMP tutorials on how to do this?

Describe your need and some materials, I may be able to make a little logo for you, although it may take one or two days.

I use PhotoImpact primarily, however able to use PhotoShop if mixing vector and bitmap required.

I just simply use a combination of MS Paint and Corel PSP X to do my logo, here's the logo screen that I have for an upcoming game project of my own. It's unveiled today (excuse the background, that's supposed to go along with the game project (it's a plasma and slime background, to go along with the "Plasmorg" space theme)):



Just hope that this will influence you in designing a logo. Keep in mind, tho, that I did this logo design specific to a game project that I'm currently working on, it would have a black background otherwise (sort of reminiscent to the old Atari or NES days of presenting logos).

@yoxola - I have a header with dimensions of 800x150 and I would need the logo to fit in there. The theme is green, and I would like it to have the "shiny" look that everyone's using. An example of the style is:

But I wouldn't care what the logo looked like, as long as it fit with the background. I want it to have the modern look, though, but not too modern. The background image can be found here:

Try again. It's nothing big, just a simple green background. Took me more time to load up the GIMP than to make it.

I have no idea what you're after, so lets start with something and work up from there.. Let me know exactly where you want to go from here :)

That's pretty much what I want...although half as large, and aligned to the left, and could you try a silver-like gradient.

It's really great, but could the gradient be a little more gradual (like the background)?

The top one is looking nice, I think I'll stick with that one...how about a thin, transparent line through the text on the bottom, like http://www.andyrutledge.com - a little highlight down on the bottom. I want to see how that looks. Also, could you make a transparent version of JUST the text, in case I feel like changing the green of the background...

Sure...I don't really need the logo for another couple of days, I'm just using the green gradient as a placeholder...and I didn't know it was so early over there.

I think that it would look better with capitals, i.e

No Enemies

Maybe it would...I've always been fond of all-lowercase logos and titles and navigation, but I could give it a shot...
