Dear Anthony Flack...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Dear Anthony Flack...

When will your game "Cletus Clay" be finished? It holds some of the most interesting and impressive graphics for blitz. been in production for a while now.

That's quite a question, but I bet the answer will be the same everybody got all the previous times when this question was arised. Still, I join in again. When?
(BTW, I can already beat Bert without loosing any lives and play in loop until I get really bored - even the controls don't get in the way anymore! I love claymation!)

yeah, I've been playin that to.

Anthony doesn't post here anymore - but this from his website (www.squashysoftware.com)...

Q. When is Cletus Clay going to be finished? I've been waiting a long time.
A. Yeah, I know. I've been really busy with other stuff. I apologise. But it will be released sometime in 2006. Sometime when you least expect it. And if you sign up for the mailing list (see the box on the right there), I'll email you as soon as it's out. So you should definitely do that.

Meanwhile, check out his first attempt in Claymation - > http://www.squashysoftware.com/bert.php

Great stuff. Especially when you jump up and slash the enemies down the middle.

Anthony is a nice guy. I emailed him over a year ago about Platypus and various development questions and he took the time to reply which was cool.

Yes he is - replied to me aswell. Although he doesn't seem to have much time for development or emails these days so I wouldn't bother him.

I exchanged e-mails with Anthony probably sum 3 years ago about his game dev and stuff and back when he was regular poster here. (Christ time goes quick)

Anthony lives in Japan and if I'm not mistaken (and I probably am) he teaches English in Japanese schools to earn money now.
Like a lot of people tend to do if they live in Japan.

So that would certainly not leave very much time for game dev unfortunately. It's a shame really cos Anthony was indeed a rare talent.

yeah he added a Platypus history to his website so he wouldn't have to keep on repeating his story.

Meanwhile, if you read our posts, we have both played it to death.

Hi guys,

Yup, I'm in Japan, although I'm not teaching English in Japanese schools - I'm teaching art, music, technology, algebra and physics (whew) at a small international school here in Tokyo.

And even though it's true I don't have much time these days, I AM still working on the game and it should definitely be released before the end of this year. Um, pretty definitely. I'm almost sure it will. And after I release it, I'm planning to move into full-time game development so you will be seeing more of my work.

So, no need to confine me to the past tense; I'm still plugging away at it and you WILL get to play it soon enough. But yeah, time does go fast...

Oh, and I don't think my mailing list is working right now, by the way. I've exceeded the limits of the free account, so I'm going to have to sign up for a paid one I guess.

And thanks for Steve for letting me know about this thread; it's true I don't read these boards any more (otherwise I really would have no time).

Have missed you dude, do not forget to say hi next time you're down under ya hear?

hey there Anthony... good to see ya again... sounds like you certain do have your hands full :)

--Mike

nice.. I'm definately getting it when you release it, Anthony.. :)

Mailing list on not, post again to let us know when it's available - I'll buy a copy aswell.

Yep. I'll buy one as well - that's for sure! Just if I won't loose my job before the end of the year! ;-)

Anthony Flack is a liar... He's actually sending helpless children down mines to dig for plasticine with their bare hands. He's pure evil I tell you...

any news ?

Stick me down for a presale.

Stick me down for a presale.
Given that its disappeared from his site, a site which has otherwise had no updates in nearly two years, you should probably hang on to your money.

Cletus is now a team project: http://www.tunasnax.com/

yay :)

Oh... My... God... This is awesome news!

It's no longer blitz though

Over time the idea continued to develop and evolve, the demos I released attracted some attention, and I ended up joining forces with Tuna in order to develop the game on console as well as PC.

Would love to have that on PSN. Good to hear it has taken progress though, I remember that engine demo he released...what.....4 years ago? Was quite the site back in the day. Will be lovely seeing it all at 720/1080p on my monitor when it gets released.
