Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/F.E.A.R annoyances.

Hey all.

I bought FEAR the other day, since it looked nice. Got it home ,span up the disk, and installed, Watched the video's on the DVD while waiting. (woah!!!)

After installation:

"*donk* The Graphics card in the system is not supported"

What? telling me my 6800 is not supported? So i flick through my manual. 6800 is listed as supported. I sigh, head over to the website, and find a whopping 300mb patch. (This is annoynig enough since those who are netless are screwed!).

an hour or so later on my currently dodgy connection, the patch is downloaded, and I install it.

Run the game.

"*donk* The Graphics card in the system is not supported"

ARGH! So, i left it and went to bed a while later.

Any ideas anyone? This thing actually tempted me to put a ti4200 back in the system!

The only thing i can think of matey, is that there was a pretty huge patch I downloaded for it. I didnt actually need to I just like keeping things up to date...but it possibly could have been an update for your prob?

Hehe. Did you read the part of my post where i stated I downloaded a 300mb file? :D

I've no idea what's causing this. the videos are sweet though.

oops, missed that...

have you emailed them?

I've played it with my 6800 so it must be some driver issue.
Don't remember which driver I was using at the time though.

Not emailed them yet, will do so later.

Sweenie, i've changed drivers a couple of times. no luck. Thanks for the help though.

i can't do any more with it until i get back home later now.

I'm just wondering, do you have grpahics drivers installed as supplied by the gfx card OEM, or the generic nVidia ones?

I would suggest you swap, just in case.

Also, did you mess with any advanced settings in the OpenGL part of the drivers? I recall having to mess with stuff to get Chronicles of Rid@#!* to work (before it got patched). An incorrectly reported OpenGL version might cause the problem.

Other than that, I wouldn't recommend phoning them because you know full well that you are not going to be speaking with someone who knows what a gfx card looks like, let alone how to diagnose your problem (unless it is a known problem, in which case check the F.E.A.R forums).

Chronicles of Rid@#!*

lol!

Hey, good point, i actually havent played with those settings when trying to get it working but i was playing with them the other day when trying to fix a black-screen issue for MGS2. I'll look into that.

Chronicles of Rid.ick: Now that was a good game!

Thats that then. If it doesn't work I'll take it back and get Chronicles of Ric@#!*. :)

Chronicles of Rid@#!*@#!*@#!*@#!*....

Was a good game but tailed off. The first 30 minutes were jaw dropping. Slick presentation, spot-on gameplay. One of the best movie licenses I've seen in a long time. I almost didn't bother to install it (came with my 7800) because the movie was so bad and I have a general dislike of movie licenses in any case. Glad I tried it :)

Still managed to make my nice shiny PC crawl when I enabled all the graphical niceties. Bearing in mind that I had (at the time) the fastest gfx card available for under £450. Still, it didn't detract too much from the game itself.

Man... it crawled a 7800 down!?

you know, End of this year, the 8000 range will come out, and then my 6800 will be as old as my 4200 was when i bought the 6800!!! >.<;;

"*donk* The Graphics card in the system is not supported"

That suggests to me that it's detecting another graphics card to the one you say you have. Does your mother board have an onboard chipset that isnt as disabled as it should be ?
Or have you perhaps still got the old card listed in the device manager as disabled even with it removed, get device manager to show you hidden devices and make sure only your 6800 is the only grpahics card shown.
Might be something daft like that ;)

nope, no other gfx system onboard at all. With this install, only the 6800 has been installed.

another good tip though. thanks.

I have a 6800 and it ran perfectly on my system....then again I have the SLI setup :p...

Well, my card is definitely supported, it's specifically written in the readme! :)

what!!! it ran well on my 128mb 6600GT. With all graphics setting in max except texture detail was 2nd from highest and soft shadows turned off. It ran at at least 40 - 60 FPS the whole time. 1024x768 32bit

I turned off soft shadows as with them on, I couldn't do anti aliasing

I bought it the other day (tenner on play.com) and am running it on my (single) 6600GT with no problems as per Evak. Admittedly soft shadows are off - while nice for 5 minutes, they don't add that much. But even when soft shadows were on, it trundled along at something like 15-20 FPS (estimate). i.e. just at the lower limits of playable with enough judder to be noticeable.

Okay okay. I fixed the problem

IM not going to tell you what it was.

*cough*Disabledvertexandpixelshaders*cough*

Thanks to Vinylpusher who reminded me I had tweaked some settings and had a daemon in the start menu doing it whenever i restarted...

Cygnus broke his card la la de dah dah

This game kicks FPS Butt!

It's a great game, even better than Riddy and seriously scarey in places ;)

Agreed, its great. I especially like the ending! (even though I know a lot of people dont!)

I got a 6800gt and never had any problems. (oh i see you found the problem)

However i constantly have problems of my card overheating. Actually not constantly but whenever i turn the heater on next to my PC, and i didnt clean the card's cooler for 6 months. Doesnt happen with any other game tho :)

I replayed the ending about 4 times, i liked it so much.

well i played the demo , got 1fps and was bored anyway, so uninstalled
