OBLIVION countdown to release videos
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/OBLIVION countdown to release videos
Right, looks like Bethesda are releasing a new video for EACH day that passes towards the release of Oblivion.
Obviously, this is just clever marketing to send people into a frenzy. Right, suits me.
So, what are you waiting for - get naked and start downloading:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htmI bet there is another cheeky little chappie to download tomorrow - else my name is "hippo-sausage".
EDIT:
In fact, I am not sure if now is today, yesterday or tomorrow over there. Not sure.
FileFront mirrors seem to be good for me (note to other people, I spent quite some time trying to find a good mirror)
Tick tock
My friend got me into this game, RadiantAI is blowing me away! How simple it is but yet how good it is.
All they do apparently is give it a simple task like: go eat, sleep, etc.
thats the genius behind it... simple rules make for complex results.... I really can't wait... these next few days will last forever...
Just hope the AI Pathfinding isn't as horrendous this time through, the amount of times I got my escort-NPC stuck on a pile of rocks in Morrowind......
Still anxiously awaiting this, I just hope it lives up to the hype though, because this will be one hell of a game.....more-so since the waiting is killing me as Dampe mentioned.
Going to wait for the heat to die down so I dont have to surf through mirrors to find a server that isn't full.
Oblivion earned a 9.5 out of 10 and an Editor's Choice Award in the March issue of Official Xbox Magazine (North America). OXM states, "Oblivion raises the bar so high that most RPGs would be (and have been) satisfied with a fraction of what's here."
Right, best someone in the USA go and buy the magazine and scan the pages.
I just hope the Xbox 360 version doesn't suck due to having to use a pad instead of (as God intended) keyboard & mouse.
I think a try-before-I-buy may be in order.
Perhaps I should just get the PC version (it being £15 cheaper) instead though? Hmm.

Agreed, but the beauty of the 360 version is that you can loaf about on the couch and also (if you are fortunate enough) play it on a huge HDTV!
PC version loads quicker on a modern system. 4 second load times on PC verses up to 20 seconds on the 360 DVD. And unless you are amongst the minority that actually have HDTV the PC version will look better and support the higher resolutions.
*puts hands over eyes*
No no no Evak is wrong - the 360 version will RULE ALL! ;)
heh cool, wish these vids were slightly longer. One thing that concerns me is that I don't like FPS that much, especialy with melee in a RPG. You don't have a good field of view and it gets annoying when you have a group to fend off and havent much idea where everyone is.
I read the PC gamer 7 page review, and really like the way the non storyline missions are laid out for you.
I would love to know why Bethesda is relying on download mirror sites...
Can they honestly not handle the bandwidth requirements to host those videos?
Sure, it's a lot... but... argh...!!!!!
If your going to do prelaunch hype, you have to put a bit of money into it... I am just about to give up because I am (once again) sick of clicking through the numerous "subscribe now so that we don't pester you if, by chance, your next download happens to be from us instead of the other 1000 sites like ours" messages.
Besides, this immeadiately shows me to never trust their official web servers to give me updates without hassling me, or to handle any other nice online features.
Edit:
3dgamers.com seems least annoying of the bunch...
Edit2:
Never mind. "Server Already At Maximum Capacity."
I've had 3 of these now... one of which from Bethesda themselves.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is all a conspiracy to get me to spend all of my money on download mirror sites.
Evak:
I haven't read the review... or much, for that matter. How are the storyline missions laid out? Is it the appalling (IMO) Freelancer-style garbage where you have 1 story mission per 10 randomly generated mission (picked out of about 4 base mission types, each of which has maybe 2 unique voice clips, and all of which seem to occur in the same places, with the same things, and right after a previous failure in the same location). Fable also seemed to suffer from this problem, but not quite as much. (Since those missions were not totally random, for the most part).
Or is it more like the good old days...
For example, (sticking to the space theme), Tachyon, or Baldurs Gate, or (though I'm not a big fan of it, but it seems to beat other games's narration abilities) Diablo.
...where there's just lots of excellent story missions that you don't have to slog through a sea of molasses to get to?
filefront worked for me without any wait or sign up
So. Anyone taking odds on whether it'll work out of the box this time?

Well Morrowind did and Arena did, and Daggerfall didn't. So I guess that's 2:1 in favour of it working.
Genexi
actually.. you could prevent the AI from getting stuck easily.. it follows your path to the T yet can't jump... so when you jump up onto ome rocks.. they get stuck... just walk (not run) and never jump... they can follow you anywhere you go... perfectly.
the problem arose because most people constantly jump to raise their jumping skill... and that combined with running all the time means lots and lots of stuck AI.. they didn't catch it when they were designing the game cause they didn't jump around like idiots like everyone who plays the game does....
neat PR trick, me thinks. I like to have something too look at while I await my preordered PC collectors edition.
here's the first page of text from the review that gives an example of the way that off story missions happen.

Cool....
I think they should have removed the objectives thing, though... it would better suit how awesomely open-ended the reviewer makes his little quest sound :)
That HUD seems to damage the look of the game... not too much, though. Hopefully it will disappear when it's not needed...
Okay, I have to read the rest of that review!
Edit: On second thought, that thing that I thought was an objectives screen is actually probably a caption.
Yep... really nice. Finally, an RPG that wasn't made by lazy bums who fail to realize two of the important elements of RPGs: A story and a living environment.
Looks like all we need now is a cheap VR system (at least with the motion sensing gloves and headset) with a driver that this game can talk to.
Well Morrowind did and Arena did
Really? Mine was RMA twice. First time because the installation was faulty, second time because the copy protection was.
I can't wait to get this game, I'll probably lock myself in the study for 3 days and 2 nights and turn into a mushroom.
Just hope I can get it on the day of release without paying EB for a pre order.

Nothing like jumping around like an idiot in light gear, traverse the lands a crapload faster then running...man my Khajiit could jump a building story and a half....though yeah I guess that would explain why my NPCs kept getting stuck. ;P
Going to love being a pickpocketer again, more-so with AI that will hopefully wont stay put as you loot their homes and just yell at you.
I used to jump from the top of the highest tower in balmore nearly into the river... ahhh.. good times...
OK OK I've succumbed and preordered -.-
Having only played DaggerFall ( well, tried to play ) I can only pray that the game works and I won't keep falling through the dungeon floor into the void below ^^
Okay, I've read the PC Gamer review.
It sounds like a great game... The review wasn't that great, though. Just some guy yammering about how great it is, without really saying why.
One thing I'd love to know is if the damage is actually visible... like if my sword is broken, do I just hear a loud noise and see a message at the top left of the screen, or does the sword itself break?
Shame about the background characters having the communication abilities of goldfish.
I hope I can just ignore them...
Well, I enjoyed the last Morrowind game... If this game is as good as the last one, it is gonna be awesome.
I just hope the Xbox 360 version doesn't suck due to having to use a pad instead of (as God intended) keyboard & mouse.
I used to be a hardcore PC gamer, but with the present state of PC games, I am all about consoles. Not having to deal with Starforce Rootkit Copy Protection, not having to install the latest graphics drivers, not having to wait until the first patch to play the game... consoles are just so nice. The console controller is actually as good as a mouse when you get used to it although it is wierd at first, and nothing beats playing a game on the living room couch, on a big TV, with the hi-fi pumping the sound.
I will definatly be enjoying the game on the 360, not the PC.
well looking at the screens on the website the pc version does look better.
But Rex has a good point.
Im still a bit weary of the game..I didnt really like morrowind
But as ive said before...its a true RPG and theres not alot to choose from , so ill be getting it.
and im afraid Puki might have a heart attack when it does launch..lol ;)
Sam
I loved morrowind... the only problem I had was how slow it was to get going.. I don't like to feel lost.. but once I got my bearings and realized I HAD to talk to people.. it get good.... thats my problem.. only problem.. you can't be anti-social entirely.. you can't just murder everyone and still beat the game
my disapointment in morrowind was that the misc dungeon crawls tended to be little more then 3-5 rooms and a corridor.
But it was still an enjoyable game.
yeah.. I hear that about the dungeons... I spent little time with them anyway... wasn't what I focused on... the new game fixes that problem and many others... which is what a game series should do.. make the game better as it goes... not the same with new graphics ... better all around but still the same thing...
Argh, 4 days to go....
Been thinking recently though with some of the fundamental gameplay changes.....I fear that the town-warp ability may make the game feel shorter & less-immersive, I quite liked travelling across the world at my own pace, and using stilt-walker transports to travel to nearby towns quicker...but this town warp seems to leave such options not worth using even though it isn't being enforced.
Yes I possibly worry too much, but I've been waiting on this game for years now, it has to be perfect. ><
yeah.. I had the same thought.. and resolved to not use it until I have at least 50,000K gold.. that should suitibly simulate the point in morrowind where teleportation becomes lucretive....
you don't have to use it... and many people didn't like crossing the same areas over and over.. and when you get down to it... whats fun about that?
