BR please fix the search tool!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/BR please fix the search tool!

Why the heck can’t you guys from BR fix the search tools on this site????
After all, this is meant to be a site for programmers where quick access to very specific information is quite crucial. I thought you guys at BR are top-notch hackers, so what’s the problem?
Yes, I know I can use google but new stuff takes some time to get into their database. And it’s a nuisance to have to go out of a site and set up google to search just a specific site…so pretty please just fix the search tool!

What do you find wrong with the search tool?

You know, It might be okay if they just added a goole-search link...

you may consider that using google will not eat as much bandwith of the blitzbasic server (since it's using cache) than using this server to search the database.

BRL search engine is pretty slow I tell you..I dont know about you guys but to see result of searching will take some time here on my side..its very slow..

yes, that is true, maybe because it has a ow priority to make sure the forum works nomatterwhat.

Hey, "set up google" sounds a bit exaggerated to me, all you have to do is go to google or yahoo and enter:

searchstring site:www.blitzbasic.com
And it allows even to search for multiple strings, in all forum sections simultanously.

I agree, latest additions may not be found that way, then again, isn't it the old stuff we can't find most times?

Google has too many caches of pages that no longer exist, cos of deletions and forum re-structuring etc. Also, am I right in thinking it can't find pages on the forums that require product registration?

What are you even searching for?

yeah... search does seem a tad slow...

how often does google clean out the cache?

"clean out the cache"?! What is... "Clean out the cache"?

sounds a bit like money laundering, haha.

i think its every week.

I have noticed that I am unable to search the code archives, this used to be possible and is quite annoying. O ther than that I have not had any issues with the current search facilities.

I agree it's slow and not being able to search the code
archives is annoying but, Nadia, what are your issues and what information is 'crucial' requiring 'quick' access?

Its not that google stores pages that don't exist, its just that the links lead to a dead forum pages:

For example, do a search for "monkeys":
"site:blitzbasic.com monkeys"
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&q=site%3ablitzbasic%2ecom%20monkeys
first link is this:
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=21052
one of many "ERROR:Internal error" pages.

It would be better if bb.com didn't return a page at all. To kill googles cache.

Agreed with the 'use a Google search link' idea. It'd be a lot better than right now. I can't use it at all - IE7 times out a LOT quicker than previous versions did - I get page not found errors every time without fail.

hell... at least search works now. I couldn't even get it to return anything at ALL prior to this week.
