Broadband options for someone with a blocked BT..

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Broadband options for someone with a blocked BT..

..Line?

Are there many broadband options for someone with a blocked bt line? By blocked I mean a line ceased by your current broadband provider.
Would I be right in thinking bulldog internet, which is supplied through a bulldog telephone line, would be excempt from the block?

Failing that, are satalite options decent, easy to set up?

Are there many wireless options?

NTL is another option. Bulldog is owned by C+W who is pulling out of the UK consumer market so I dont know whats going to happen there.

Satellite is ok for speed but there is a lot of latency, it's fine for browsing and downloading but no good for online gaming.

The only other choice would be a T1-3 pipe.

Ant,

For ADSL the line is going to be a BT line regardless of who the ISP was surely? Who you're paying the phone line rental bill to is a whole other story. But as far as I'm aware an ISP cannot block your phone line.

I didn't think Satelite provide net connection. It appears I'm out of date!

Cable options... I'm on NTL and have no problems.

Wireless options are usually someone nearby who has not entered a wep key on their router.

I'm with Bulldog broadband and I would plead with you not to join them. If you do join them expect to be connected within 2 months of applying. Also, expect your first monthly bill to bulldog broadband to be your entire wage for the year because they usually take out of your bank £2000 more than they are supposed to. Expect disconnections every 5 minutes and when you call to speak to tech support don't be suprised if some form of monkey or ape picks up the call. A suggestion for when you call bulldog broadband would be to hire a baboon from the local zoo and ask the baboon to speak to tech support for you. You then have to find a way to translate it into human language that you can understand.

Also, be prepared for phone calls from marketing companies that Bulldog have especially chosen for you. Also, if you think you can change your number the you would be wrong as you can't change your bulldog phone number.

I have more I have to say about bulldog but I fear having a psychotic episode whenever I think about the company.

[edit] Oh yeah, if you ever think that you will leave the company and that they will stop taking money out of your account then your mistaken. My cousin cancelled his bulldog account after his contract was up and moved to a different ISP. Bulldog was still taking money out of his account three months later as he forgot to cancel the direct debit. When he spoke to bulldog to get the money back they billed himn for £607.00 for breaking his month by month contract. :/

Rob, I'm not sure to be honest, but it does say it's through a bulldog telephone line. They even give you an option of signing up if you don't have a bt line.
Well at least they will once it's the 31st of march in my area.

Banshee, any links for t1 pipes? Are they expensive, restricted in any way?

Amon, that sounds pretty bad but I'm running out of options. Eclipse so far are refusing to give me a Mac(Migration authorization code) so my only choice is something not related to bt's adsl biz.
Btw, since I got cut off I can no longer access my eclipse e-mail account so if you've sent me any e-mails since we last spoke I've not been ignoring them. My new addy is antony@... Good ole dial up. What a merry @#!*ing christmas :)

1) Get a job
2) pay off all your debts and get your own place
3) begin living a life without restrictions

Had to be said

The irony is one eyed, that I just joined a team internet based that would have started paying in april, but I can't begin work until I get a broadband connection again.

I love irony.

Are they allowed to deny you a MAC code? If you go with Bulldog go for the new line option. They install a Bulldog telephone line(not BT related at all) and I think at the moment it costs only £1 installation. If your not far from the exchange you'll be able to get the full 8mb connection.

That may be your best bet if eclipse are being difficult.

Any broadband is better than no Broadband. :)

You're right amon, they just sent me an e-mail saying that since my line has now been ceased i'm free to sign up with another provider of my choice. sweet :)

Anyone know of a broadband provider that lets you pay via cheque, postal order etc? I.e one that doens't require a bank account?
I just signed upto a bank but i'm waiting on the card coming, and i'm impatient :p

You don't have a BANK ACCOUNT!?

You haven't read ant's history have you? :) He is the original 65535 colour hippy bum.

Check this site out Ant. Put your postcode or telephone number in it and it will show you all broadband providers that are available in your area. http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/?GTSE=goog&GTKW=broadband

I very much doubt that you will find a provider that only takes cheque even less so postal orders.

heh, Ant, you remind me of my younger self.

not too much younger though :P

"You haven't read ant's history have you? :) He is the original 65535 colour hippy bum."

And? :P

Amon, good news I've just signed upto bt broadband which is payed through the bt phonebill, so i'll be back on broadband within a week.
For once being a hippie bum has no drawback :)

Cyngus, nope, but i know a man who does. (any excuse to act like micheal caine.)
