Power Render6.5

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Power Render6.5

..well, I just become proud owner of the commercial licese for this baby..I mean 500$ for such a thing is really cool, shaders SM3, FX, HLSL,CG, whole toolset,importers/exporters for 3DSMAX, physics (newton), support for Xbox, pretty good in comparison with Torque, for same price..I'm going to play now with it... :))

conratulation. and good luck with it. Let us know about your progress.

Yes, please keep us posted as it looks really nice on paper - which always makes me think 2 things
a) where's my wallet?
b) whats the catch? ;)

..come on man..500US is same price as for Torque or Truevision3D..but this is really powerful...OGL, DX9.0, Xbox..pretty good documentation (finally something very clear..huhh)...

PowerRender is nice, actually I think it's a serious tool for game developing, however it runs slow on my notebook, so I can't use it currently.

hey Yoxola, whats your notebook specs??

NA... .net programming tools, right?

yeah, definitely let us know how you like it...

..yup..version 5 running with Delphi, C#, VB.NET

that license also entitles you to use version 6 as well, doesn't it?

--Mike

well..I purchase version 6.x, and it is C++ driven engine...and I think you have to pay for upgrade 5 to 6..but hey, price is same for both...150US$ for standard license...excellent stuff man..documentation about classes, and all commands is so well done..

AMD 2200+ with ATi Radeon Motibility eq to 7500,
not high spec, however it runs Cipher/Torque OK,
I think PowerRender is a high definition engine so require a bit higher specs.

Isn't the licence a bit restrictive ?

"Terms: Site License, allows commercial distribution of unlimited products in retail stores, online, or other non-gaming commercial applications"

I read that as you can't distribute games using it ? Would be happy to be proved wrong tho....

you can distribute games..thats exactly same question I asked Chris..here is my email and his answer to me..

> Terms: Site License, allows commercial distribution of unlimited

> So, what does it mean actually? I cant make game and sell it, becouse
> it says NON-GAMING COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS.

The license means you can sell any product (including games) in retail
stores, online.

> And second question is, If I decide to let say buy Commercial version
> but without Commercial Renewal, can I buy if after 1 year of free
> upgrade, what i will have with commercial version ?

The renewal is something you can buy after 1 year to get more updates and
support. It is not something you need to get right away. ie you could wait
5 years.

Chris

Cool!

a) where's my wallet?
b) wheRE'S the caSH? ;)

I have always been more intrigued with PowerRender than I ever was with Truevision or Torque.....I'll have to take a closer look at it when i get a chance.....not too excited with the C++ aspect though.....

You don't need to use c++,
I use PR with Delphi atm. works great!

Version 5 yes...version 6.x no far as I know..

oh V6.x is is out in beta'ish form, neat!
Chris will hopefully keep the Delphi implementation going.
Even if it's not right away..

Power Render 6.5 supplies also an integrated world and terrain editor, which in my opinion ,is an important feature.
Does it work well ?
Is it comparable to CShop for example ?
What about BSP and collision detection ?
Thanks

I know they don't officially support any other compilers, but does it look like it would compile with MinGW?

Alberto..
Yes, Power render 6.5 supplies world editor, material editor (you can set up shaders and materials aplied on to your models in world editor), Ragdol editor, Character animation editor, Landscape studio (terrain creation),Font maker, exporters for 3DSMAX or MAYA, conversion tools for Quake3 BSP's to Power Render BSP format..etc...and for collision detection,

Octree collision detection for general polygon soups (ie models exported from 3DS Max)

BSP collision for levels

Geometric polytope based collision detection and ray intersection tests

Thanks, actually it looks great
