Check it out:

im sure people would actually goto the db site if they wanted to see.

Instead of using one large to cover the terrain with, 3D World Studio uses a system like UT2004 and Half-Life 2; Terrains are made with alpha-blended tiling layers. This makes terrain textures look sharp and detailed, even close-up. To create a path on the terrain, just add a new layer with a gravel texture, and paint a trail. Terrain is exported in the .dbo format, giving Dark Basic Professional users a triple-A terrain system.

That is just awsome! Any thoughts on this? Can anyone explain this a bit better or point to some online resources about this? (I tried googling for a few terms, and came up with nothing).

I dont know, for being 'dark' basic, their sit is awfully cheerfull and full of life. The newsletter gives you hope, and encourages you to look forward...

It's a nice change from the usual around here...

Well I also thought a db newsletter will never replace a blitz newsletter :.( , even when the DB newsletter is posted right here.

I just posted it because my program is on the front cover.

Dark Half, here is a page from the User's Guide about texturing terrain:
http://www.leadwerks.com/page.php?page=docs/3DWorldStudio/terrain04.htm

It's a much nicer technique than the old giant-texture-map plus a detail map. It also exports to .b3d or .dbo, with lighting.

Nice work halo!

World studio is yours !?!? :-) Nice work indeed! I guess I should be more up to date on who is doing what.

That terrain thing looks simply amazing!

Heh, nice one "halo".

Once again, "halo's" productivity has paid off.

wait a minute... you didn't know that halo is the CEO of Leadwerks Universal Incorporated Unlimited International... and future president of the World Union...

where were you the past few years... on mars!!!

:)

sorry... the sugar and caffeine from my early morning coffee and donut has me going... btw, nice pimping job josh, i kinda figured you'd be selling copies of the newsletter on streetcorners :) congrats on the release, i may have to license a copy...

hey, i read the DB NewsLetter already, got it in my email... and if i was a DBPro licensee, i'd definitely run out and buy that 3D World Studio thing, and that neat sounding LipSyncing thing...

... hey, wait a minute... i am a DBPro licensee!!!

duuhhhh...

in all seriousness though, ya gotta give credit where credit is due... they've been keeping their community happy with news, releases, and other stuff... on a regular basis...

Just news would be nice.... Releases and other stuff would be taking that mile from the inch. Just some news....

Red,

Shame on your for ignoring to mention that 3DWS also exports to Torque and B3D and I believe Half Life.

IPete2.

I've been a CShop/3DWS for a good while now and have to say that it's an awesome, ever-evolving app and I recommend it to anyone searching for a mapping tool.

i consider myself properly admonished IP :]

Adding 3D Game Studio/A6 .wmp export soon!

Also discussing a deal with Ageia this afternoon.

hey halo, I've been messing with all the .map editors, Quark, radiant, hammer, WED, and tried your worldstudio demo. Mostly because I'm looking for a reliable .map exporter.

Was a bit disappointed that the 3DWS demo wouldn't load my maps.

Oddly the best editor to use map2dif with was WED that comes with A6 Gamestudio. Which I found quite amusing, since you would imagine that one of the established big 3 would be the most reliable.

Can you provide a little more information than "wouldn't load my maps"? 3D World Studio imports the .map format, if that is what you mean.

I select import, select .map, browse to my file, select one and get the following popup. I have VC++ 2005 installed, not sure what you would see otherwise.

This was for a quake .map file without any entities. I'll troubleshoot some more when I have time, probably best to post on your own forum :), just saw your post on here and it reminded me.

You are the first person to report this error. Are you using version 5.42?

As for the newsletter, good work.

As for the error, my pants are on fire and I have no idea.

I just bought 3D world Studio, but have not had a chance to play with it yet. Its good that it can export to Blits, DB-Pro and Torque and when the Game Studio pluging arrives It will be ever better as these are the apps I dabble with in my devic meanderings.

The DB-Pro News letter is a fine piece of work IMHO, There is always something in it that interests me :)

Pity the Blitz one died a death as the few that I recieved showed promise.

Oh well

Cheers

Garion

There are several systems like this for Blitz as well: ALE, FLE etc. FLE was open source up to some point. You may try this: http://www.melog.ch/dl/fle_ablend3.zip
