Truly I just wish I had some real news. It looked like a promising start but I suppose the programmer bit off a bit more than he could swallow. As a business model he could have released incrementally. It does work as long as you release a solid and stable core.
Does anyone know anything?

Yeah like most of us will have made the games and retired before this becomes available. Not that I care since there are enough languages to shake a stick at. IF I move it will be to c++ and maybe Torque just to get on the consoles.
I think it's inevitable that projects such as Cobra and BMax3d are going to take a very long time to complete given that they are basically "one-man" teams.
I'm sure some of us have been working on projects, far less complex than a next-gen 3d engine/programming language, for years as well so we should understand the problems and issues and support the developers involved.
It must be very disheartening when you're working flat out on something for people to cry "spoof".

It was scheduled to be finished mid summer, but things like real-life, documentation and underestimating exactly how big this thing is had a marked effect.
Still, 60 out of the 900 commands are undocumented, tutorials are written, etc. So should indicate how close the release is.
But that's all I'll be saying, as this is after all a Blitz site.

I think in the case of this particular software they made a mistake pre-announcing. They should have waiting until they had something to ship, now they have egg on their faces and it smells nasty.
There's a Cobra Q and A thread on the Blitz Coder site that will keep you informed.
As far as I know, Cobra is pretty much done and is in beta testing whereby it is now a case of just debugging it and finishing it - I'd expect it this year.
Of course, I might be wrong.
Having previously bought DBP 3 years before it was stable i'll be watching Cobra with interest, but I will not be bitting into the cake until the traditional bug fixing period has passed.
I think/hope Cobra will operate closer to the Blitz model rather than the TGC one where they move onto other projects as quickly as possible, whereas Blitz have stayed with their products until they are stable before starting the next project.
That's an important distinction, as in the case of DBP it added a delay measured in years until the product could do what the box said it could do.
It's easy to spot too, by keeping an eye on the hype that the "company"/one-man-band are putting out about future developments.
I should also point out that the current DBP user base are not continually up in arms fighting for updates anymore, so the product as stands is pressumeably stable.

seriously though... you are 200% right... that is one of the main differences... and one of the reasons why i stay with Blitz, even if i have to wait a while for the 3D module (had to toss that in there :) )...

Rook, is there some reason that you always post here to criticize Cobra instead of posting on the site that's advertising and publishing it? I mean if you genuinely wanted information on the new Burger King burger, you wouldn't go into McDonalds to ask about it, would you?
The creator of Cobra is a frequent on this forum. The owner of Burger King doesnt sit in Macdonalds all day :)

I fully believe in the information power of corporate espionage!!! AND who better to know details than blitzers... My only real complaint is that nothing on that site has been updated... C'mon take 5 minutes and stick in a line about "60 commands left to document!" one simple sentence!!!
And yes I post critical here... here was where I saw it announced. I don't flame. I meerly mentioned. Spoof or no spoof. My opinion Vaporware until proven.

If other people posted something it's nothing to do with us. All announcements / chatter (apart from the answer to this thread) are kept to CW by everyone involved in Cobra.

I've made it a point to restrict my posts to the blitz forums to either blitz stuff, off topic or replying to people spreading misinformation about Cobra, and I will continue with that policy.
I've a lot of respect for Mark and Blitz, blitz got me back to enjoying coding and I don't think it's right to pollute the forums of another language.
While I don't use blitz these days, I do still have a fair amount of code available, and still share what I have for free either directly or via my site, which is mainly why I keep reading (and occasionally posting) here.
Personally I think the mods should lock this and let people get back to blitzing ;)

Does anyone actualy realise how hard it is to make a computer language?
Try a BASIC one (don't copy mine), and you'll quickly realise that it's one of the most toughest projects that you'll ever undertake! :)
Spock might like logic, but trying to make a computer enjoy it on a star trek level is a pain in the arse!
If you can do better, don't diss it... WRITE IT!!!

Dabz - Writing a compiler or interpreter might be one of the hardest things to do but it's got to be one of the coolest once your get it working.
I'm working on a Basic byte code compiler and a VM for it for embedded chips. The target processor has 2K EEPROM and 256b of ram.

Although early promotion has its pros/cons, I think we have all learned the hard way the problems faced when a programming language is rushed and released before its ready. The guy behind Cobra (sorry his name escapes me) should be applauded for NOT being money-motivated and releasing a language that may be unfinished, unstable or undocumented.
I love the 13 'reviews' at the bottom of the page from people who have never even seen the product but are just drooling, I don't know, maybe they have been given a big pineapple instead and the drool is a result of that, eh "new_coder_blitz3d"? They should remove the review section until they actually publish it, they are just embarrasing themselves.

"Vapourware until proven" ... maybe that's fair, but surely you can "I'll believe it when I see it." without actively seeking to undermine somebody elses work?
I will believe it when I see it, that's not to say I disbelieve cobra, but that I dont see the point of judging something I cannot judge. I'll try Cobra at some point and i'll decide whether it is the language I want to use ... That is of course if I stay in the software industry, which mostly boils down to whether anyone would pay me to use Cobra... :)

However, the style of the marketing tells a lot about the quality of a product.
A good "rushed out" example is DBPro...
