cronjobs - oh how we love you.

Man these are fantastic, why do we not know more about these friends of ours? Now my websites are completely automated!

Not to be confused with 'cronejobs' ... services available from disreputable women who really should have quit 'the game' when their looks gave out.

Does anyone use the desktop equivalents... Windows scripting service (I think) and equivalents ?

I am becoming a total luddite as time passes and I don't like my computer to do stuff without me expressly asking it to.

I was referring to serverside scripting.. oh well.. here we go..

Example:

Indiegamebusiness.com has to send x thousand emails on behalf of a client. If the server had send these all at one time then the planet would stop rotating. So we schedule a cronjob to run a script every 5 minutes which sends emails from a queue. Voila, you get your browser window back and our server gets a breather :)

I am writing a web game, and have been having a lot of fun with cron jobs controlling monsters, etc.

Cron jobs are nice.

Actually I'm on Linux :P
