Help! Protean Crash

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Help! Protean Crash

Last night when I went to shut down windows, XP said protean hadn't shut down properly so I click the ole end task button and windows shut down. Today Protean loaded but there is no Main Menu and no Toolbar! This means I can't load/save/compile etc!!! I could reinstall but I don't want to loose all my settings. Anyone got any bright ideas? Perhaps the answer is in one of the XML files?

Thanks in advance

You could probably use this for future topics.

As for the rest of that -- when in doubt, uninstall, clean directory, reinstall.

What the hell? I don't need to read that, I know that stuff from years of industry experience. My question describes all the symptoms. The Protean forums are totally dead and there are more Protean users (and programmers) hanging out here who might be able to help, esp. if they've seen this before. I thought it was worth a shot before bothering to reinstall (like I already said).

Reinstalling will take less time.

you are probably right it was just the hassle of the settings again as first time I set it up it didn't compile and I couldn't figure out what was wrong for ages. Problem is I don't remember what I did to sort it, sigh.

Backup current folder
Install another protean to other directory, manually copy setting files to it and give a try?

Maybe the setting is corrupt, then you may have to figure out which one is damaged.

yeah I'm gonna do it now, thanks.

Isn't that the same as reinstalling it, since you'll lose the settings anyways?

No not really as the old settings are being backed up and copied in, maybe there's some misunderstanding...

No matter, I just reinstalled and went through the settings again, turns out my memory is pretty good, AOK now.

The Protean forums are back up now too just incase of future problems ;)

Jason.

Umm, sorry I appear to be late, but it was a simple matter of deleting the layout.xml file. =]

blah thanks anyway.
