Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Sharing an internet connection. XP > 98

Hey, i'm trying to set up two computers, so i can let the computer running win 98, sharing the internet off of the XP computer, which is directly connected to the internet... so:

INTERNET ...... XP computer ........ 98 Computer.

I've tried setting up internet connection sharing on the XP computer, and all seems well, but, the 98 computer... i have no idea what to do on that. Tried fiddling about with the networking settings and setting up an internet connection, via the LAN settings, but no joy.

I also tried running the setup program XP lets you create when setting up internet connection sharing, but still nothing. Any ideas?

Those help any?

On the 98 machine just set the TCPIP default gateway to be the IP address of the XP machine.

If the computers are already networked simple right click on your connection to the internet (on your xp machine) and under the advanced tab select the checkbox "Share this internet connection". Then on your windows 98 machine make sure the default gateway, and dns server ip's are set to the xp machines ip address (usually 192.168.0.1).

You might want to make sure any installed firewall software is allowing you to do what you are trying to do, instead of just denying acess to the internet pacckets you are trying to share.

Thanks guys, i'll give that a shot. :o)
