star trek 2d game

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/star trek 2d game

A few months ago with the help of Scouse I was creating what was supposed to be a 2d multiplayer star trek game.

Basically I stopped because I can't do the multiplayer. I'd like to continue with some help in the form of a multiplayer and physics/combat programmer. I did all the graphics, sounds are from the star trek library...

if interested reply here.

You obtained a star trek license? Or is it just supposed to be like star trek?

You and I know there is NO LICENSE... but if he makes it NOT TO SELL... then the question becomes is it OK...

Spidey Sense tingles... more debates coming...

> then the question becomes is it OK...

The answer to that is no it is not, and paramount (although the trek license was just transferred in a sale of paramount assests of some kind) is well known for going after license infringements.

Thought about it a little longer, although using Kirk, Spock, Etc... in something gets them after you pretty quick there have been tons of starship models of the enterprise (3D studio types) that they seem to ignore completely - so who knows?

um paramount never went after any small free ware trek games. if you were a member of the trek community you would know.

star trek TNZ.
Birth of the federation 2
star trek red alert, and the list goes on for recently released fan games based on star trek.

so aside from the naysayers, anyone interested?

I wasn't naysaying... I honestly didn't know ... Seems reasonable to me that someone could obtain a license to make a trek game... it has been known to happen on oh.. 50 or so... occasions.

I was asking because if you were planning to sell it, you might consider Time Bridge as an alternate world to base the game in... I see that isn't going to be an option for you, so I wish you well with the project.

But why risk it when you can have an equally engaging game simply by changing some minor stuff like names & events around?

well, then I would need a couple artists, and sound people to do new sounds, wouldnt I? as no more access to the public sound library for star trek. because it wouldnt be star trek.

yepper... inspired by Star Trek and ripped off from Star Trek are pretty much two different things... Until it goes to court.
