It's The Card Dudes... The Card

i just retired one of my machines from service, and transfered the video card from it to my old 733mHz file server yesterday... it previously had a GeForce2MX in it... hey, it was a file server...

anyways, i decided to try running some Blitz apps, a few demo apps, and a game on it, and i was thoroughly amazed at the transformation... stuff that wouldn't run, or would creep with the GeForce2MX suddenly sprung to life, and are now playable...

i never imagined that the difference would be so profound... yep, the card's the biggee... or at least, a biggee...

now, i know that a file server is no place to be storing games on and playing em from, but, hey... it's for 'testing' purposes only, so it's ok...

It wouldn't happen to be 3 keyboards at once is it? As I do believe you're over compensating in some areas of your typing.

I'm afraid the MX group of nvidia cards were notoriously rubbish for performance.

My Geforce 2 GTS was much much much faster and it was an earlier card - hmm it was quite expensive though now I recall.

sweet! that's the same card that my brother has.

On the upside they had a low power requirement and doesn't generate much heat, making them uselful for non-gaming systems, not to mention the price-tag on specific models....but yeah, definately not a gaming card.

I take it your rig there has a bit of ram in it then to make the most out of the Radeon there as to expect such a boost in performance Red?

actually, the server only has 256 MB of ram, but the 9200 makes a world of difference...

you're right, the GEForce2MX was good enough for the purpose of using it as a server... (and maybe running a game or two on it :) )

I love the ATi 9200!!! I really don't like nVidia as they seem to assume a job is done and go on to the next thing. Like the card seems to assume after a certain amount of time that a texture is loaded and applied when it is NOT!!! Had several problems with my Slot Machine game because of that.

I have that 9200 too, tho second edition. It's not that bad. No shader 2 support and a bit slow, but hey, it's real cheap. And best of all: no fan, absolutely silent.

yeah, I was amazed when I finaly upgraded my Geforce 3 to a 128mb 6600GT. In some of the newer games I get as much as 11x performance boost.

All about ATI Radeons....

Geforces ar bad taboo for me and games.
