I have a tune stuck in my head

No, really- Do you ever get this?
Composers- Have you ever got an idea that just goes *schtunk* and stays there?
This thing's been playing in my head since I thought it up a few hours back, and I'm about 4 hours away at least from being able to put pen to paper with it!!!
Perhaps I'm just crazy.
Thanks to Grey Alien by the way!!!! >.<;;
can't you just write down the notes and timings, at least sorta. Maybe you can find an online tracker or something? OK, just hum it into soundrecorder via a mic, then you won't forget it! :-)
btw, yes I used to get the same thing when I was in a band and writing the riffs etc, and when I used to make up mods years ago.
No, don't worry.
This is perfectly normal for composers.
It's the way that your brain worries at and strss-tests a new idea, seeking out angles, tones, harmonies etc.
It's perfectly normal.
Though you may not sleep tonight.
(Apologies to anyone who doesn't understand this. It just comes with the turf if you compose music.)
I had a tune stuck in my throat, so i switched to lockets:)
LMAO, Ruz, you just made me laugh so hard it hurt! In an office!
My Muvo2 supports voice recordnig, :P Will look funny if i just hum to it :P
lol @ ruz :P
yeah Cyg: don't you know you should crush tunes before snorting them, or they get stuck.
I don't bother with sudden ideas, if I forget one, fine, an hour later I'll have another one. :P It's like killing a wasp when you're sitting in the garden, you'll never succeed in killing the last wasp! :P
I'm more the type who shapes raw clay.. I just put down stuff like notes or specific sounds and then shape/deform/expand/shrink it.
When I have something in mind it's usually only a few bars, fully orchestrated already tho, but never more than just a few bars. I don't even bother trying to put that on paper/screen for the simple reason that just a few bars won't cut it, you need more for a complete tune.
Give me a few random values here and now and I can create a tune from it, I played like that on piano ages ago. I got blindfolded, ppl put my hands on some place on the keys, and I started playing/improvising from there. Highly interesting a process it was for what I'm doing now.
One of my future-projects will be a composition-generator based on random values. Conventional composition that is, no weird art orso.
Gimme clay to shape :P
Well, this is nothing more than about 2 bars either, but i can hear all the little bits. :) I'm really itching to play with it.
Thats very interesting, CS_TBL- If someone blindfolded me and placed my hands on random keys, I'd kill small animals.
I used to have a carappy little tape recorder so that when playing the guitar (elec or accoustic) If I got a cool riff going I could quickly record it. In the end I have tapes worth of stuff that I sampled onto the PC and categorised. Then when I wrote some songs, I though, hmm I need an arabian style heavy riff here, and I'd listen to the ones I had and use a couple and tweak them a bit etc. It worked really well, plus I can now hear them years later, they are not forgotten!
I once made this cool little tune up on the accoustic called "sinister smell from under the floorboards".
Cyg: heh, thought I'd hijack a teeny bit and chuck up a couple of riffs I made on the tape recorder by way of example. The quality is poo, but it was enough for me to record the moment and work it out again if I ever needed to. These are from 1998! I've got loads of better ones ...

I have a distinct lack of guitar riff's. You may be able to make some dosh outa them :)
Can't hear em here at work though. Will checkem out later :)
man I'm a riff machine. I walk round making them up all day long, people in supermarkets probably think I'm crazy.
Can't hear em here at work though
probably good for you :-)
here's another with my (long lost) mate Max playing my casio CZ1:

I have about an hour left before i get to toot it all out :)
I also suffer from riffitis !!
For quick and easy recording on the fly I can heartily recommend the Zoom PS-04 digital multitracker - here's a riff based tune I did on it in about half an hour - yes all first takes:
http://webzoom.freewebs.com/smiff/matter-lo.mp3The vocals are really poor but I'm quite proud of my doubled up lead solo !!
Smiff: yeah the quality of that recording is good, solo's nice too. Mine's real raw and the tape recorder just doesn't pick up any of the marshal power and edge. I only bough it as I was in a lazy mood and I just wanted a non-tech solution to just go "ooh, I'll just record that before I forget it", works for acoustics too of course, and for 2x guitars and keyboard which I used to do when friends came round.
I've been listening to the same three songs for the past 18 or so hours :|
My mobile phone has had many a tune whistled into it so I can record a song in my head.
One day someone will invent a device that can hear what I compose in my head without me having to go anywhere near a keyboard.
Until then, there is Cubase ;)
Wow it got smoke on the water first time!
omg it got Iron Man by Black Sabbath first try!
I theorised this sort of thing was possible ages ago. Me and a mate used to challenge each other to recognise classic riffs just by tapping them!
I love the song tapper so much... It is great for making sure the songs you just wrote weren't written before... there have been a coupld cases where I would write something and then think... man that sounds familiar... only to find out later I re-wrote something without knowing it.
wow, it got enter sandman too. I love it!
[edit] OK I continue to be amazed. It now got Raiders of the lost arc. It hasn't failed once yet!!!!
my god it just got the A-team first time and War Pigs (black sabbath). Either this program is amazing or I'm pretty good at tapping.
Cyg: Your tune is cool! boing. Thanks.
GA: what it does is look at how you tapped, and compare it to how thousands of other tapped... and if you ever find one that isn't right.. you can update the site and include what you tepped.. thusly making what you tapped part of the system and making the system stronger.
Song Tapper knows classical too!
Any blues fans? I LOOOOVE blues. Bluesy blues. And, just so this thread is computer related, I use a computer to record my blues...
I play blues on accoustic and electric. I've got loads of classic blues such as BB King etc.
Glad you like :) It's my ringtone now, how sad is that? :)
I could remember it exactly this morning too.
