PS3 looks horrid

Is this what the PS3 will look like?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4731128.stm

It looks MASSIVE and horrible! I thought consoles were spose to be these small little things. Plus if it's not rectangular you can't stack other stuff on it, like every other black box, how naff is that.

It looks like a All-In-One printer!!! LOL

Hello.

No resting cans of coke on top either, a serious design flaw!

Goodbye.

I think it looks quite cool...size might make it difficult to put it where my PS2 is though.

The bigger problem is that it looks like its going to be a whole year before I can get it :(

Thats why I would never buy one (nor a XBox 360). They both are huge and the worse part: their power blocks add another quite large part that is not visible in this pictures.

I put my preorder on the revolution. While it might not be the HDTV thing, its graphical power will be enough for anything my regular PAL TV can show :-)
And especially the innovative part is what makes it important to me.
Sony and MS made their must have that expensive, that you will only see mainstream games on them and even those will most likely become more expensive due to the higher dev costs of games for this plattforms. (PC games already became more expensive due to this)

Looks like an 80's video recorder.

Doesn't look too bad standing on end... I guess you could slide it down the side of the telly to hide it.

Looking like my broken rice cooker..

Thats not PS3, it's a Lexmark

Thats not PS3, it's a Lexmark

Lol.

It reminds me of something from the 80's fur sure! They should make a wooden version!

I looks like a breadbin with a flapping front.

noooo, that can't be true! The best console have 'em built in, I have separate PSU from a clutter point of view even if they are easier to replace if they go wrong. But my console PSUs have never gone wrong, only my Amiga ones did, ALL the time.

only my Amiga ones did, ALL the time.

I've got one working one left of two :) And ive only owned my amiga for about 4 months

It's so fast that it requires an airodynamic shape to prevent it from overheating. ;)

george forman grill!

Yuk! And I thought the PS2 was ugly...

I preferred the PS2 when it was just a design and was a double-height PS1. That was cool :D

yeah that's pretty close, some kinda indoor BBQ. It's got square bits and round bits and just looks like a mess. and the colour is gross too (actually maye that's just the angle it's at)

Heh, I could do some bacon in it.

Kinda funny how Nintendo is the only company this round that actually made a system that doesn't scream "Look at me!".

But yeah, PS3 looks like a Lexmark to me too. :P

Lots of wasted space there. It would be a lot smaller if it had sharper edges. I bet that 50% of that curvy thing is just empty, too. (They needed to make invisible room for the decorations!)

I don't know about everyone else, but rounded electronics, to me, look like underpowered garbage. Whereas sharp-edged stuff looks more powerful.

I guess the weird shape may have something to do with enhanced cooling?

more like it's enhanced dumbass rating.

Meh, the shape doesn't make no odds. They could make it c*ck shaped and it would still sell bucket loads. :P

if it ws shaped so, it might actually sell loads!

PeeS3? :P

Its certainly true that nowadays image carries much greater weight than substance. Luckily I don't subscribe to that view. If something does what is is supposed to do then I don't care what it looks like - women excepted of course ;)

i'm still buying the ps3.

Well it can't be any worse looking than the PS2, and especially the godawful X-Box and GayCube (Tomy Tots Microwave oven) designs.
I think the best designed systems are the SNES (Europe) and PS1 (Both of them, especially the tiny one)

Again though, who cares what it looks like right? As long as it's a good system, PCs since they were first invented have and always will look @#!* in their tower or flat square boxes. But we've been buying them for years.

My mate who's working on with a PS3 dev kit atm says that the PS3 is really noisy when it's turned on, like his leg is gonna be blown off by a bomb or something. :)

megadrive looked good, but it didn't stack.

You guys honestly telling me, you'd base your decision to buy a console based on the minor difference in size and what colour it is? Nothing o do with the games and hardware?

Very strange...

I think the size is a deceptive part of the photo because there is quite some distance between the person in the background and the actual unit. I don't think you can accurately say what the size is.

Does it matter that much tho? I mean, if you like the games that the console plays, surely that should be the deciding factor. Not the colour and shape.

Sure you can... those are USB ports on the front, no? Or at least USB sized ones.... certainly aren't PS2 controler port sized I hope...

"Looks like an 80's video recorder."

Are you kidding?
You sure didn't grow up in the 80's!

This is what crap looked like in the 80's:

My own lovely 80's VCR looked a bit like this, if you remove the CD tray in the top:

What am I missing? :p

Anyone remember that PYE stuff, when stereos and TVs had fake wood effect and black grills and sliders for volume!

Yeah the USB ports mean the console is massive, that's how I worked it out.

george forman grill!

LMAO. Look at this I just came across...

wicked! lol, that's not georg forman though. Wonder if he's a Japanese ex-boxer or just a fat business dude?

An image like this was posted on the XBox forums I thik so he's probably someone linked to XBox in some way.

Not an XBoxer so I've got no idea

heh heah thats what it's supposed to look like.

Haha, it looks like an 80's tapedeck.

"What am I missing? :p"

Curves.

Reminds me of my Philips N1700 Betamax player.

what the hell, that's fake right? It massive and horrid!

hmmm, man that must be about actual size when you compare the space for the DVD slot and compare it to the size of his hands. I imagine he's quite a short Japanese guy with smallish hands.

PS3 - Next generation gaming console, or midget coffin?

It looks just over 2 CDS wide (use tray slot for comparison), so it's not that big.

I personaly liked the Revolution prototypq case best. Something simple and understated that can fit in anywhere and let you stack things on, or hide it out of the way.

Can't stand cheap looking junk making the living room look a mess. Probably doesn't help that I prefer the indiana jones look as far as home decor goes lol.

does it come in wood?

does it come in wood?

I would have loved to have seen it look like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari_2600

nice, is it a fan heater or a console?

You never had one? I did... they rocked.

Oh my god!!!

It comes with its own deep fat fryer!!!

I already mentioned about the wood :P

One Eyed Jack: nah, played on one, but never owned one. They are so 80s, make me all nostalic for ET, The AT Team, Goonies, Knight Rider etc.

I owned one :) Thats where my wood comment came from too :)
