I posted this from another topic, because it may get lost and people may miss it... From Mark...
Hi all,
Max3D is coming along, but is at kind of a strange point at the moment.
I know how to do all the neato stuff I want to do, but am struggling a bit with how to present it all as a dead cool, multi purpose game engine API. I'm confident it'll happen, but it will require some serious 'quiet time' on my part.
I do plan on releasing little demos here and there as devlopment progresses (and a public 'beta test' of sorts is not completely out of the question), but really, it's still too early to be thinking about this stuff at all.
Bye,

nice to hear something at least :)
nice to hear there are no technical difficulties.BLitz3D is a supercool gameengine (Red October take notice of Marks use of the term GAMEENGINE) - so something from the same bloke will be good also
Are they good or bad news?
I appreciate very much the work of Mr. Sibly to make 3d-related-things as easy as possibile, but I would read a most specific 'state of the engine' at the current time...I don't want a beta or something, but only know what is done, what is in WIP and what is 'damend thing that doesn't work!!'
Only for curiosity...
well, at least that's something... now i know that it definitely won't be here till after June... (sob... sob... sob)... so i can plan accordingly...

Well, maybe we could make some suggestions in this area? Afterall, we're going to be the ones using it. :P
Mind you, 'design by committee' might not be such a great idea... :)

That would be very uncharacteristic of BRL.
"and a public 'beta test' of sorts is not completely out of the question" might be an opportunity to put out some constructive critisism.
Will be interesting to see where the big issues are. Hopefully the key ones that hurt Blitz3D will be addressed at least.
I personaly would love to see a base Blitz3D comparable engine, with an extended shader engine addon. But thats mostly because I am more interested in a cross platform Blitz3D with a few optimizations than anything too fancy.

That would be a good idea, that way the community can be *involved* a little.
After June huh? I guess you will all be keeping nice and quiet till then?
Nah I thought not :)
June 2008 lol... nah, I'm sure they'd make it sometime around then.
The thing I would like to see, if I ever buy it, is full documentation, because that was one of BlitzBasic's strong points when I first used it! If I was stuck, or think I needed a certain command, help was only a click away...
Plus, additional documentation, as in offical books from BR would be nice (Not just for BlitzMax either), I mean, they created the languages, so who best to explain them!
I would buy them, as I'm always buying programming books, I cannot walk past waterstones without peeking at the 'Computer Programming' section! (Our lass goes nuts as well! :) ), and I'm sure others are the same! ;)
Dabz
Note: The best book I've bought is 'The complete Reference to C++' by Herb Schildt, it's a corker! :)

I'm still hopeful for a Xmas release, like what I've been saying since last year ;]
I'm more concerned about what happens when Longhorn comes out rather than when exactly it will be released, or what the interface will be like. It would kind of suck if suddenly the apps wouldn't work because there is no Open GL support in Longhorn.
Or is thic concern unfounded because Max will support Direct3D as well? I haven't been keeping up on what Mark plans to do with the 3d stuff.
If you read between the lines it means:
I am working on it... all is going well... quit asking me about it!!!
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
And for MY part:
And IMHO OpenGL isn't all its cracked up to be.
... funny how people see so many different things when they read in between the lines... and what's even more amazing is that not one of these in between the lines things has ever been copied and quoted...

Rook copied it,
I Quoted it! :)
LOL :) good one Cyg... but this is all i see in the post above... on the lines and in between...

Still time wasting I see. :)
took me all of about 15 seconds... about the same amount of time it took you to type up and post your lil diddy :P
besides... i've got 3 machines running right now, and i'm doing something on each one of em... look around at the 'what have you accomplished today' thread...
hmmmm i see plenty of people getting stuff done there...
look over at the Blitz Showcase and the Gaphics Showcase forums... plenty of neat stuff being posted there on a daily basis too...
... but i don't seem to see anything produced by ENAY anywhere... yet he insists on chiding everyone about wasting time... hhhhhmmmmm...
ya see, some of us get things done a lil quicker than others... some of us can also multitask... and, unlike some cheeze eating people, who shall remain nameless (ENAY)... we can afford to take a lil time to post our viewpoints and opinions without it being a waste of time...
so, with me being one of those multitaskers, and you not... while it might be a waste of time for you, it's just another time splice for me :)
besides... i don't believe in time the way you do :)

Oh Mike, I wish I was able to multitask and post in the wrong topic like you. Perhaps you look at 3 topics at once on 3 PCs at the same time.
well.. keep practicing... and one day you will be able to...
until then, bow down and be humble... and quiet...
