Time travel in Animal Crossing

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Time travel in Animal Crossing

While searching for information about how to get my piece of junk Nintendo DS wi-fi USB connector thing to work (no joy so far), I stumbled across the following.

Its not often that something on the net really does make me laugh out loud, but this did.

I don't get it - I tried concentrating. Is this a game or someone pretending it happened in real-life?

It sounds like he changed his computer clock 4 years into the future, so the game thought 4 years had passed and no maintenance had been performed in that time frame... so everything is falling apart. and it remembered the overgrown status, so resetting the date did not undo the damage.

I remember an old HP free screensaver ploy: They had this realistic looking goldfish, and you would have to feed it regularly for it to flourish. If you didn't feed it for a week, it would die.
You had to 'buy' food and 'fun accessories' using credits. You got a credit for each page that you printed out. (=tons of people doing unnecessary printjobs so they could feed their fish or buy plants & accessories for in the background)

One of my co-workers had been playing around with this stupid fish for a week or two (figured out he got 'free' credits by using print-to-file). One day while he was out for lunch, we forwarded the clock on his computer a year. That resulted in a dead fish floating belly-up at the top of his screen since it had been a year since its last feeding. :-?

(In that case though, rolling back the date revived the fish again. Luckily for us.)

'puki', the Nintendo DS game "Animal Crossing" bases its world & events upon the DSs internal clock, so as time passes by, your villangers live on (or leave), trees grow up, weeds appear, etc...

One of the thing many people dislike in terms of playing it is "time travelling", which as xlsior said, it putting your systems clock ahead of the current time. It ruins the game imo as it allows you to head to a specific time period to get something specific (like catching a fish that appears only in a certain season) and what not. The thing is that the game doesnt take into account if you set the clock behind the current date as was the cast with the posted link, that guy is screwed. :P

Never played Animal Crossing online before, it's pretty barebones as I've played it with my sis via local-play, but then again, so are the other 2 DS games that have online play.
(which are Mario Kart DS & Tony Hawks, both of which I own and quite love regarding single-player content)
