Star Wreck

I spent months downloading Star Wreck in the pirkinning but now I cant seem to find a media player that plays it.
Winamp, Windows media player and Realplayer all cant play it fo some reason even though its a WMV
can anyone help?

It uses the XVid codec, so you'll have to look that up on Google and install it. It should then run fine in Windows Media Player.

I've always had good results with the k-lite codec pack (whichever size suits you) and Media Player Classic (included in the pack).

At the very least, that's what worked for Star Wreck specifically.

Starwreck is encoded with the XVid codec.

Very impressive, with more/better special effects than many 'real' bug budget sci-fi movies.

It's basically a 'Star Trek meets Babylon 5' spoof.

But is it any good? I can't stand the new Star Trek spin-offs but I used to watch the earlier ones.

If it's a kick-in-the-pants to the Star Trek saga, then I want to watch it since I can't stand 'Star Wreck' (What a perfect title...) any more...

They really don't try to 'be' star trek, they pretty much break every single rule and directive within the ST universe.

The story really stands on itself, they just happened to do some heavy borrowing on both ST & Babylon 5 when it comes to the spaceship designs and some of the characters themselves.

Synopsis: (some minor spoilage)

'star trek' type crew is stuck in the present for whatever reason, keeping a low profile. While this is being explained, the captain person meanwhile tries to pick up a girl bragging how he's a space ship captain from the future -- want to see my twinkler?

But finally the captain has had enough of laying low, not interfering with anything, and goes bad -- they manage to stage a minor 'revolution' in a russian research facility, and secretly build a star trek type spaceship aided by the Russians. Fast forward a global revolution, backstabbing the Russians, and you end up with a 3rd reich type empire with the captain guy as emperor.

Stir in some Babylon 5 universe, and you end up with more spacebattles and explosions than all other scifi movies combined.

It won't win any acedamy awards any time soon, but its still pretty entertaining, and amazing considering the abysmal budget it was filmed on.

Some how the Finnish dialog adds something. :-?

I liked it. The acting was well poor, and it became a tad tiresome near then end but it was prett funny and amazing what they have achieved.

On a related note: there was a thread that got deleted the other day about "New Voyages" these amateur episodes with Kirk, Spock, etc being played by new actors. I did watch "In harms way" and it was OK actually. The acting and the film stock make it seem a bit home videoish and the 3D graphis aren't as good as that Finnish one, but the plot was pretty interesting and they used the incidental music well.

Awesome, they have Klingon translations...
