FAO Admin: I can't connect to BlitzBasic.com

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/FAO Admin: I can't connect to BlitzBasic.com

Since quite 3 weeks ago, I can't connect to www.blitzbasic.com anymore. I can only connect to www.blitzbasic.co.nz

The problem is, the links to old topics redirect the browser to blitzbasic.com, thus I can't see it.

I can reach the blitzbasic.com web site from other locations, so it does not seem really a problem with the web site itself. But perhaps there's something wrong with my account - cookies and such.

I get this error:
You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try to contact the Web site by using any e-mail address or phone number that may be listed on the www.blitzbasic.com home page.

You can click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden

I'm using IE 6.0.2 and winXP SP2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sergio.

And this still happens now after the server change?

And this still happens now after the server change?

Yes.

As said, from other location I can connect to .com with no problem. But not from here, from where only the co.nz seems avaliable.

???

Sergio.

Well I'm not sure what could be causing it semar. Have you tried deleting your cookies?

'the links to old topics redirect the browser to blitzbasic.com'?

What do you mean by this?

Open a commandprompt and type 'netstat /flushdns' - you may also try killing any application level firewall (like Zone Alarm). I know at one point ZA blocked UserFriendly.

netstat /flushdns seems not to be a known command.

@Simonh,
I mean that when I click on the links from within the .co.nz web site, I get the same page access error.

And worse, I can't syncronize Bmax too.

How can I delete the blitz cookies ? Where are located ?

Sergio.

And worse, I can't syncronize Bmax too

Same here

Synchronize Modules
Synchronizing: brl
Error connecting to server: Unknown error
Synchronizing: pub
Error connecting to server: Unknown error

Process complete

Yeah, synchronize modules isn't working at the moment. That's a separate issue.

Cookies are usually located in 'Documents and Setting/User/Cookies' and the blitz cookie begins with www.blitzbasic.com

I'm not sure that will do anything though. It sounds like a configuration problem with your computer or ISP.

Semar, try entering blitzbasic.com into the traceroute box on here:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/

Do you get 'Reached Destination'?

simonh, perhaps editing the forum code so that links to the blitz sites get truncated from http://www.blitzbasicormax.comorco.nz/Community/somepage456.php to just /Community/somepage456.php when clicked on - this will solve the cookie problem for multiple domains for everyone. afaik

What Flameduck means is ipconfig /flushdns.

I've performed ipconfig /flushdns, here is the result:
C:\Documents and Settings\sergio>ipconfig /flushdns

Windows IP Configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

I've also deleted the cookies.

Entering blitzbasic.com into the traceroute box on www.dnsstuff.com/ gives indeed 'Reached Destination'.

But still no joy :-/

Sergio.

Sadly I must add that the connection problem to blitzbasic.com happens also on other pcs - not only my one.

We get a 'Read Timeout' error message.

Synchronizing also don't work.

Sergio.

Could it be a dodgy modem? Pumping out invalid bits! :/

Dabz

Most likely it's your ISP's DNS server that's holding on to the old IP address for the website, or possibly can't find the current DNS servers to obtain the correct IP information.

Try adding the following lines to your computers HOSTS file, and see if that makes a difference:

216.80.7.88 www.blitzmax.com
216.80.7.88 blitzmax.com
216.80.7.88 blitzbasic.com
216.80.7.88 www.blitzbasic.com

(Under Windows XP & 2000 the hosts file can be found under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts , or c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open with notepad, add those couple of lines, and save. Should take effect immediately.

Thanks xlsior, but didn't work either.

Strange is, the www.blitzmax.com works quite fine - broken picture links from within the main page, but overall works.

Sergio.

That didn't work? WOah, he just over-rid the part of connecting that retreives an IP, so youre now always connecting to BlitzBasic...oh, wait, nah, that wont be it.

I had an idea though, Cant you use your hosts file to redirect all blitzbasic.com requests to NZ?

How to modify the hosts file to redirect all blitzbasic.com requests to blitzbasic.co.nz ?

I've tryed to add a line like:
216.80.7.88 blitzbasic.co.nz
and also
blitzbasic.com blitzbasic.co.nz

but still no joy.

Strange is, if I ping blitzbasic.com works. If I do a tracert to blitzbasic.com works too.
But if I put the ip address 216.80.7.88 directly in the address box of my browser, I get "test page for SSL-TLS Aware-Apache installation on web site...":
Hey, it worked !
The SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver was
successfully installed on this website.
If you can see this page, then the people who own this website have just installed the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.

ATTENTION!
If you are seeing this page instead of the site you expected, please contact the administrator of the site involved. (Try sending mail to <webmaster@domain>.) Although this site is running the Apache software it almost certainly has no other connection to the Apache Group, so please do not send mail about this site or its contents to the Apache authors. If you do, your message will be ignored.
The Apache online documentation has been included with this distribution.
Especially also read the mod_ssl User Manual carefully.

Your are allowed to use the images below on your SSL-aware Apache Web server.
Thanks for using Apache, mod_ssl and OpenSSL!

???

That means that the site is name-based, not IP based. Modern webservers can host thousands of different domains on a single IP, it figures out which domain you try to reach by looking at the HTTP 1.1 request header submitted by your browser. IP's cost money, so most providers use name-based hosting unless you pay extra for a dedicated IP.

Strange is, the www.blitzmax.com works quite fine - broken picture links from within the main page, but overall works.
I'm getting something exactly like this today, except blitzbasic.com is the one that works, and the other two don't. I'm using one of the 'less than good' hotel ISPs, tho' so that might be it.

By the way, they all resolve to the same IP address here, but it's a different one than xlsiors!?!

Well it all worked perfectly before I left home.

I followed the chain of authority, to rule out any local cached DNS info:
