Max2D OpenGL...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Max2D OpenGL...

As it looks like the Max2D module have rooted to be as more compartible it can be. This is well respected but what about some extentions like Max2D for OpenGL 2.0 graphic cards or OpenGL 1.4 and glew.
I don't know If we can have more power as I am talking about 2D and I never been in the graphic algorithms and effects I just wondering...
I don't like the DirectX7 situation and the minnimum requirements considering the graphic cards. It makes me fill that we are hunting people to play our games with ancient machines.
This cannot work together? OpenGL and extentions. Functions that will be no null if we set the graphics driver as it must be with the commands setGraphicsDriver GLMax2dGraphicDriver.

I am a new coder so don't shoot me in sigh.

How about finishing a couple of games, then coming back here to judge?

What kind of game you wand me to create?

Write your own modules if you are that unhappy.

I don't think he's complaining so much as genuinely inquisitive. I think he's just asking if it is possible, which it is. GLEW is supported in it's entirety, so if there was something somebody wanted badly enough, they can program using these extensions. Of course most people who want stuff (ie me) are too dumb to work with OpenGL, in which case they play the waiting game. =] OpenGL 1.4 or OpenGL 2.0 is basically exactly the same as OpenGL 1.2, just with more extensions. So using these extensions with the base OpenGL 1.2 we have now, means you are effectively using 1.4 or 2.0 or whatever anyway and you would market your game as such.

If you feel unhappy about marketing your product as DX7, then market it as DX9. It will still work and your users will think you're cooler. Because they're all idiots. =]

Many a true word spoke in jest. When DX9 was relatively new, many retails games were listing minimum specs as DX9 and including the DX9 setup on the cd, but the game was, in fact, compiled against the DX8 sdk, and did not require dx9 at all. Of course, when you sell online you're dealing with a whole different type of idiot than the retail idiots ;)

I agree also there is nothing particularly negative about his inquiry and it's not something that warrants making yourself look big and powerful at his expense, projecting your own lack of self worth onto him.

You can use extensions with BlitzMax for OpenGL beyond 1.2, if you want, it is optional and you'd have to code it yourself.

I believe Glew is already incorporated into the standard BlitzMax?

There is also nothing that you have to do or create or release in order to be considered `worthy` of asking any questions that you like. You certainly don't have to have released some fully commercial published multi-million game in order to be considered elegible to ask any kind of question, and being IN that boat doesn't make you any more of an authority either.

yes... GLEW is already there... here... somewhere :)

Hey, that smiley didn't mean I was joking. Just being friendly. =]

I know, but "many a true word spoken in a light-hearted, friendly fashion, no offense intended" doesn't have the same ring to it.
