Any free AntiVirus?

I have problems with my computers I believe I have a Virus. My downloads stops as reach the 250k down and some pages never open. This must be a virus. For further information I am connecting to internet via hub that it's connected to the ADSL router.

Please help!

AVAST is free for home use..and from my experiance its pretty good and resource saving antivirus program..

I've used AVG (Free Edition) for the last few years without any problems. It's updated daily, too.

But the funny thing is that I cannot download it from my computer...
I have to go to a Net cafe.

I'll email you an Avast installer if you want. Do you have brandband? it's around 5Mb I think.

Also you should install AdAware, update it and then scan for spyware. These days spyware is almost WORSE than viruses with the crappy effect it has on PCs.

My vote is for AVG as well.

I use AVG, too. However, my email gets a good virus/spam scanning before my ISP passes it onto me, anyways. Don't all ISPs do this?

For the time I managed to download AVAST and I am waiting for the first scan to finish. I don't really like the gui but it doesn't matter as it is an antivitus.
I have 4 PC infected here so If AVAST make the job and clean the first computer I will try and AVG.
After all it's good to know that there some free AntiVirus programs out there.

In my opinion AVG isn't just the best free one, it's the best one all around. Avast is pretty decent too.

The one catch with AVG is that the website of the creators has been hding the free version pretty deeply in the site. If you cannoy locate if (AVGFree), you can also get it from a bunch of mirror sites like majorgeeks.com

Also, if you suspect that you already have a virus on your system, you can also do a free online scan through your webbrowser by going to http://housecall.antivirus.com
Note that since this is a website, it will NOT run continuously in the background, so it will only actively protect you when you are manually going to the site and run the scan -- but it can be very helpful in cleaning up an affected machine. Also scans & removes a bunch of spyware programs, if you choose to.

Avast! gets my vote - it was also the first antivirus software to support Win64.

Blimey. Surely, if all ISPs did virus scanning as standard, it would help cut the proliferation of Viruses by a huge amount?!

There's no such thing as a free lunch. There is real overhead and cost involved, and since the ISP business is pretty cut-throat there will always be many places that won't include such things in order to reduce operational costs, especially since there are plenty of customers that pick price over features.

And even if all email was scanned by default, it would still leave plenty of other attack vectors that your PC would be vulnerable against, unless you run a client-side scanning util.
