Changing File Associations?!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Changing File Associations?!

What on earth happened here...
Using Windows XP, I am trying to get Programmers Notepad 2 to become my primary editor for PHP files. This shouldn't be hard.
So, if I get to the "Open With" screen, either by right clicking on a file and hitting "open with->choose program" or going through folder options - file types. Then I choose browse to locate the Programmers Notepad executable, which works. Now, no matter what I do, Windows will not actually add the program to its list of options to open the file with!

What am I doing wrong here? Is there a better way to do this through the control panel?

Changing the file associations through Programmers Notepad should work, but does not.
PHP files are currently set to open in Notepad.

It is possible to change the file type association to other programs like.

Try deleting the current association?

Thanks for the deleting suggestion.
I had to delete the association, then go through advanced mode to set it to "open" blah\blah\pn.exe with %1 (file path) in the command line, which I also had to surround by quote marks by myself.

Yeah, Mr Pick, this has happened a lot to me.
It just seems that if Windows doesn't care for the app (?) it just ignores it.
Great to know you're the one in control, isn't it?

Windows seems bugged in this area-

Try to use two different blitz apps to open two different types of file-

both files seem to want to open in the same exe.
(I think ive got the above right- not sure)

Also, setting what file to open .BB files in- if youve got two versions of a blitz IDE, and try to set it to open with the newer one, it always opens with the old one no matter what. ech!
