I dunno, you go here, you click on the 3d one, then on the menu item that says In Action; do you get to see it in action?

If they can't even organise a web site to do what it says on the tin, then what chance the software?

Does not bode well frankly. Think I'll save some time and give it a miss.

BTW if you're looking for a modeller this doesn't acually generate 3D, just 2d images from inbuilt 3D shapes. Bah.

web sites aren't always written by the same people... Often times it's not even done in house.

This looks kind of fishy to me... everythings like a big advert fo rsomething. 'Look what YOU could do if YOU had this software' etc.

Anyone downloaded and tried stuff yet?

It's an advert for the NEWER versions :P

So far I've gone through 3 links trying to download something and it keeps taking me to new pages.

Don't bother with the 3d app - it is pretty crap - even for free! Try Cool 3d instead.

Only a tiny bit longer than typing the word "irrelevant" does.

I have used Serif Software for years and so far I have not been disapointed.

I currently use the latest version of their DTP app to produce all manner of stuff.

The Vector drawing app Drawplus served me well too and I have just passed it down to the bairns so that they can learn how to use it.

All the apps are definately worth a look but IMHO the DTP and the Vector Drawing apps are the best of the bunch.

Pop over to www.serif.com or www.serif.co.uk and have a look.

The only gripe I had with Serif was one over zealous telesales person who just would not give up..until I told him that he was about to lose a customer. Thats the only gripe I have had in the 5 or 6 years I have bean dealing with them.

Just checked the Download Links to the Downloads and I was Downloading within 3 clicks.

It all depends on how you look at it. What does it cost? Doesn't money cost something? Something can't cost itself. We are the same thing as what money costs. Etc.

Anyway, lots of people here have released free software, and I bet a few of those people may have initially had an evil business strategy, but had better things to do. They decided to put it out for free because it's a nice thing to do, and it can make someone look generous. (Thus, a little bit of drive to buy their pay stuff)



Linux is free. Do you honestly think that after all these years, there are people intending to cash in with the thing?

Some Linux distributions such as Ubuntu come with enough free software to do practically anything. Do you think that all of that stuff, after being distributed with a 100% free operating system, as well as being mirrored all over the universe, is going to suddenly turn evil and start charging you money for random features like being able to go fullscreen?


Edit: Red October's post was in response to a one line post saying either "Life is free" or "Money is free." Either way, he is not being a mindless ape.

The Software that Serif are giving away free on the website is the same software they give away free on Magazine CD's in the UK.

I started using their free stuff years ago and when they started offering me upgrades to their latest versions at £9.99 each I took the plunge and upgraded my DrawPlus and Pageplus.

However, if the free software does what yoo want it to do then there is no need to spend money upgrading it.

The company are hoping yoo will upgrade, but the decision is ultimatly yours.

Soooo, If yoo can't get it from a magazine CD, Download it at try it.

PS I don't work for them, but I really have no complaints about their software :)

basically you download it then have to register it for free. Then they send you emails which you can opt out of. They'll probably also send junkmail.

PagePlus must have improved then, Garion. I had a terrible time writing a manual with it. Was about 10 years ago, though. :P

hehe, Aye it has come on Leaps and bounds and is it really 10 years.... sigh how time fly's. I got my first free copy of it just after Win 95 came out, before that I used Pagemaker Classic ( a budget version of Pagemaker 4) :)

Version 11 has the abilty to create PDF docs, yoo can load PDF's made in other apps and edit them as well.

It has recieved many awards and is a breeze to use.

Bah I sound like a fanboy :)

But seriously, IMHO its the best Non Adobe/ Quark DTP package out there atm.

I remember those early Serif packages too.
