No not me personally, i'm still the ugly old hag you love to slander, but I have just redone my team website and would appreciate comments, whether it be compatability issues or compliments and flames.

typo: "Our forums where" should be "Our forums were"
and I find the black text at the bottom left a little awkward to read on that background (which btw is a tad large :) ).

Other than that, it looks pretty good.

All those errors are the fault of point and click software, including the spelling of were! :)

Thank you for looking, the black text hasn't quite WYSIWYG'd, I made it on an Apple Mac and the font on the PC looks a bit different. So much for ease of use.

I can't stand those HTMLer WYSIWYGs... they bloat your code and don't really give you anything you couldn't code yourself... sometimes faster than loading the software...

For a second there I thought we had lost the wonderfully odd looks of Becky Rose... NEVER... You and Noel are the only people on this forum I've seen who I would recognize a mile away. Thats a good thing in my book.

It appears that "were" is replaced with "where" all over the place...

The site is loading a bit slowly on this end, unfortunately. (With DSL). Perhaps you'll need to lower the quality on a few of those pictures. Some of your site content appears to be massive images containing just text, while other bits are plain text... perhaps you should rethink that. One rather small section's content is about 300 kB.
If you have them like that because you are missing the real plain text, the Microsoft Document Imager can recognize text in images.

Without them i'd have no web page! I preffer to program games rather than web pages - so the web site is merely a means to distribute the games. Without WYSIWYG i'd be lost. :/

I was once scared of heights, so I decided to climb up a mountain, and I did. I was jealous of my brothers racing trophies, so I got into a Go Kart and won my own, and even got me some championship trophies. I wanted to make games on my PC, so I bought a language (or two) and wrote them. I wanted to get a game onto a magazine cover, i've now had 20 or so.

But I will never, ever, master the use of where/were, apostraphe's or write an entire paragraph in the same tense. It's simply beyond me!


That's my one biggest fear of the site, I like how I could make the pages look in iWeb (the WYSIWYG tool I used) but it exports all images as .png with alpha - which is just wasteful.


The older stuff has installers (uninstalled via add/remove software control panel), it was the best way to distribute 7zip files and 7zip makes for so much smaller files - but now with faster cable connections being commonplace we'll (me and the Banshee boys) readily use bulkier but installerless rar and zip files. To our credit the downloads with installers are clearly marked ;).

I'd suggest sticking with Self Extractors. People can complain all they want, but it actually takes less clicking, and the developer doesn't need to worry about people who can't unzip 7zip or Rar or Zip files. It's also more user friendly for the numerous dummies who have never heard of right click and tremor with fear when they see the interface to a Zip program.

It looks more professional to distribute self extractors instead of basic archive files, too.



About where and were. Where has an "h", which can be thought of as "here". That's not how I remember it, and I doubt that it helps :/


About the slide shows... They work nicely, but when I close the main site, the JavaScript stops working. Perhaps this should be fixed :)

I like the design of the website, although it took a tad too long to load, for my liking. I have 1MB broadband - 56k'ers will probably get tired of waiting and move on.

I don't like the fact you mention your recent forum hack on the main page. You even mention the individual concerned! He must be chuffed with this. Treat hackers like flies: swat them and flick 'em in the bin.

Why not have a link to the forum in the menu bar thingie at the top, instead of just on the main page?

I agree totally, infact i've been trying too and i'd just like to say... frikkin iWeb! I might have to try and edit the files manually if I can find where that is stored.

Thanks, i'll report that glitch to Apple - along with a few suggestions I really want (such as being able to add pages made from outside of iWeb to the menu so I can put the Forums on there).

Banshee, I was in the same position as you a couple of months ago. I wanted to make a website using a WYSIWYG editor, and not get my hands dirty with HTML. It quickly became apparent that this isn't possible - you NEED to learn the basics of HTML and CSS, IMO. The good news is that this is a pretty simple/quick task. I think it took me a couple of hours study (on the web) to get the hang of the basics. Just do it and get it out the way. :)

lol. OK, I missed the 'novice' bit. I still think he'd be feeling all smug with getting a mention, though. You know hackers: they're not the sharpest knife in the draw. ;)

Re: the spelling mistakes, such as "please baer with us". Doesn't your editor have a spell checker, or summat? :P Mind you, that part of the site does appear to be an image, for some reason.

Here's a great site for learning basics on PHP, CSS, etc.
It doesn't go very deep into most of the topics, but it helps to relieve any preliminary fears.

It does, but with words like Wyvernrage and 'Aint all over the place the little red squigglies kind of blend into the background! It doesn't have a grammar check though, which is what I really need, my spelling on the whole isn't too bad other than the odd typo - it's my total inneptitude with beer/bear where/were there/their etc.

Meh, screw grammar - just get the spelling right! ;P

Too many images - much of those images you could use text for, and try to minimize the size.

I just sent a huge email to Apple detailing numerous issues with iWeb, including it's tendancy to save text as images for one, and when it does use plain text the fonts dont look right on the PC... It's an excellent program but I think I migrated too early as it needs to mature.

Nice design, but maybe too much image content on the home page as it makes it slow to load for me.

Yah, it kind of goes against the whole "Macs are fast" thing, when it pushes out web sites that slow down practically any computer, and immeadiately insists that the site was "made on a mac."

Good for you, sending the email. Most people are too lazy to do that!
Let's hope they help you out :)
(And if not, you can always use the exported files to make final touches with another program).

I like my little iMac Mr Picklesworth, but i'd never call it fast :). At least with this website design I can slow you all down to my speed now - whilst I merrily switch over to the PC and browse elsewhere...
