Eve Online

Anyone playing this game, cause I have a question about it.

I see there are a number of listed enhancements available for it. Do these require purchase like the add on for everquest?.

I just started it again after over a year and half from looking at it last time and cant quite seam to find the answer to that question!. I suspect its all free, as the main game im using says "red moon rising", and thats the latest one!.

Yeah it's all free. Last time i downloaded it for trial you could get all the updates for free and just start playing. You only need to pay subscription if you play more than 14 days.

I must say, they have added tutorials on how to play it. Loading speeds are far shorter now as well, making a lot more playable.

Yes but most of the game comes down to waiting to travel between systems and waiting for your skills to come up. If they removed the waiting i'd play it, but now they figure if people wait their subscriptions will last longer? Same with alllll MMOGs, sadly.

Ahhh Eve, the online game where your character progress occurs faster whilst not actually logged in and playing ... genius!

It is actually. Well, sort of.

There's a huge urge to start training another skill the very second your last one finishes training, so if you're shutting down for the night you choose one that at the very least will take long enough to train that you can log in quickly before leaving for work and switch it to a different one.

It's quite compulsive and makes you log in and schedule your time around it. You know you're going to have to go online in 1 hour 23 minutes to switch skills, so you make time to do that. And of course, once you're in you might as well check your messages, see who else is online and say hello, you discover that you need to warp somewhere before you miss a mission deadline and so on...

Woah... I think teamonkey has just unknowingly and flawlessly described why MMOs like WOW, Everquest and Eve don't deserve to be called games...

Yeah, I've been grinding lvls on City of heros/villains for the past 1.3 years... gets tedious after a while!

Especially if you just want to explore a new class and not replay the same missions over and over...

Devs don't realize that grinding is a big turnoff, i don't think that they actually play their products!!

Don't get me started on Guildwars!!! No mounts/travelling powers and every mission you need to go from point 'a' to point 'b' is always in an insane repetitive 'S' shaped path to make sure it takes you maximum time to get there.. i hate mmo's!!!!
Ok i gotta go back in City of heroes now and get my fix ;)
