Enquiring mind: wants to know more

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Enquiring mind: wants to know more

I was going to post this to Blitz3d programming, but felt any version of blitz might be able to work with it, so why not in here instead..

I went here: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

I grabbed a file from that lot, it was: FSUIPC_SDK.zip

I don't have enough experience to make a lot of sense of most of what's in there:

What I'd like to know is this: Can any or all Blitz products make any use of this whatsoever?

If they can, then what would one need to do to make it so?

I would have just posted excerpts, but that would have used a lot of space here, possibly needlessly too. There are quite a few language varieties covered in there.

I've had it put to me that blitz quite possibly can't cut it in this respect. I can't very readily accept that, especially since it was from a non blitz user. Hence asking all and sundry here as one or two of you may easily see how to do it.

ahhhh i know this guy... schiratti has been around the Flight Sim community for the longest...

that dll seems to be a Flight Sim addon to allow various user aspects of the Flight Sim to be customized, animated, manipulated by an external program during runtime...

i would assume (ASSume) that you could access it the same way any dll is accessed by either B;itz or BMax...

if i may ask... what are ya planning to do with the Flight Sim... inquiring minds want to know :)

I thought I might actually use the package to make addons for my own needs of tinkering if I could find out what I need to read up on to get from here to there. You kow I used to make stuff for another sim and that now I don't; I wondered if this might let me get creative in some way in the MS one. So I planned on a little tinkering. I don't know where to start.

Manual reading is a "non obvious" thing for me; I don't get it most of the time. If I know that what I'm reading will eventually cut to the chase and get me where I want to be then I got more time for it. For me even indexes seem to waffle on dreadfully. Mostly for me it's about as much use as reading telephone directories isn't. I'm more of a lego type, plug this and this and that together, ok now what can it do? ;O)

So, do you know Mike? You sort of hint that you do? I should not be too surprised if you did. Which bit of the manual? [edit]Come to think of it, which manual? [/edit] ;O)

Mike, did you go fishing or something? where did you go then? You're not still fooling aobut with that thing are you?

sorry... a lil busy here atm... wish i could go fishing...

this is an sdk, and it does require a lot of tech knowledge about how not only it works, but how the MS Flight sim works...

go over to one of the flight sim forums http://www.avsim.com and search around for info on FSUIPC...

that's the best i coan tell you right now...

maybe a bit more later...

Oh yeah, I've done all the sight seeing already, all I'm stuck on is whether biltz (any one of them) can make any use of it or not.

I may be wrong, but when it comes to calling dlls in blitz isn't that when people normally end up talking about wrappers?

Effectively it's a way to get data in and out of FS, I just can't work out how you use it! ;O)

It's annoying as I undersand the principle, as it's simple enough for even a clod like me, but the way in is what's got me foxed! If I could crack that then I could have a play probably. I'd settle for just reading the data in some of the variables, as even that could be very useful. Actually there's a stack of potential projects in there for any blitzer to get going on, and probably get paid too. Arcade games are not the only market really. Over at sim market people are charging pots of cash, for not always very much at all really. This looks an awful lot like the front door to me! ;O)
