Any good places to find a team?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Any good places to find a team?

I'm not looking to assemble a team, rather join one. The only good place I know of is game dev's help wanted. Any others of interest out there?

At least ppl need to know what you can do for them eh..

On a football pitch.

The crowd looked dismayed.

You're a tallented Guy, Anthony- Make sure whatever team you find that you dont get bored!

Heh, nice to see your still around Ant.

do you know what you want to do in the team yet?

I don't think you deserve a team just yet as you haven't actually finished any games at all. There's just no excuses is there?

I have defended you in the past like when flameduck made his dig at you, but come on dude... if you got the game, the artists will bang your door down.

What we are looking for as artists is: a complete game we can essentially change all the placeholders from. I can't think if a superb artist in the world that would not be tempted by that...

So you must deliver, then the talent will come.

the way I see it Ant is a good technology guy and would be a valuable member of a competent team with at least one other talented programmer.

He does some awesome things but so far in my experience at least, it wouldf take an extra coder to help stitch everything together and actually finish something.

Wish he had gotten his trinity engine along a bit further, We've all but given up on Bmax ever getting anywhere, anytime soon.

Still using the same old email then?

I've been working on trinity 2 ad, now with fully working b3d loader minus with nearly working skeletol animation.
Wish you stayed with blitz, we could have made fmc 2 :)
As for e-mail, not at the moment, my broadband is cut off till I pay the bill in a week or two. New one is antony@...

One eyed, i've not finished any games because of various reasons, no excuses but nothing I can do about it.
I've found building a good team almost impossible because most people lack either the time or commitment to make it work. So that's why I'm looking for a team. Something that's already established and succesful in getting work done.

You're just looking for employment, sounds like.

Wouldn't say no to a paying job. @#!* yeah, defnitely, but not no.

Supply the dope. And occasionally code.

when you can email dope, let me know ;-)

Ant... the only reason the fallout 3 game didn't get done was because you quit. The only reason the metroid game didn't get started was because you quit.

Here is the beef.

If you can make an engine, and build a game sans GFX and Story for Time Bridge. I will use it. I will write the story, and I will find people to do the GFX.

But I can't trust you enough to count on you.

Build me an action platformer metroid style engine with 32X32 pix tiles and all the trimming, and be there to create the code for the motion of the character and enemies as I ask for it... and I'll gladly include you as part of the Time Bridge team.... but I won't count ofn you getting anything done. If you make that engine and then ask me via email what I want the main character to be able to do... And you provide me an engine that will let me make maps, with any tiles I want, and any character and enemy sprites I want... then I will have my faith restored in you..

I know you can do it. And it really won't be that hard to make. It is a simple engine... It is a simple type of game and relys of emergent properties for variety.. all of which I will provide...

Should take you no more than a couple weeks to produce... but I highly doubt you have the will to complete anything. As part of a team or alone.

Consider it a challenge and the opertunity to prove yourself to this group of people.

Were you not the one that was making grandoise promises of finishing your gang warfare game?

Pot, Kettle.

And Antony wells has done 10X MORE than you have ever shown any ability to do. Much as Antony has his faults, you're not in his league...

Hmm? I'm still working on the gang game... I've bee searching for 2 aspects I require to make it a reality... Those being a solution to a problem that arose from my total noobism and someone good with iso gfx.

Also I am working on 2 other games at the mo for Time Bridge. Both of which will be completed provided the other people involved hold up their ends.

I have first hand expirence with Antony ducking out of 2 projects with no reason.

My own projects fail because I have no idea what I am doing when I code.

Thats not the same thing at all.. I understand who is at fault for most of the failures of my ideas... and it is my poor abilities at coding... Antony doesn't have that problem.

And there were no grandiose promises with the gang game... I mean... it is a simple isometric 2d tactical rpg with a cool idea... I had expected to be able to do it cause it shouldn't be so hard... The wall I ran into was in getting the AI to play on some level other than random... Random works well for a final fantasy RPG... not for a tactical rpg... a near fatal oversight on my part.

And 10 times nothing is nothing.

My strength lies outside the code side of games.. I hang around here because I have the right to and I've made some really awesome connections and friends here.

I can only speak from my own exp. and while Ant is def good at what he does, he has failed on 2 accounts to complete a task he started and had dragged me into under the promise that it would be completed.. I have never let anyone down that I know of... People always drop out on me... It is my own fault as well, though... I should have learned all of the required skills to complete the task...

But Antony has so much potential... I was hoping I might appeal to his pride which seems to have worked in the past to get him going... Thanks for ruining that and taking me down a notch.

Congrats.. you made me feel bad. I hope you are happy. I hope it will help you sleep better tonight.

LOL yeah, actually, quite pleased :)

He didn't make you feel bad. You processed in your brain what he said then decided to feel bad.

well.. Looks like 2 people feel good, so that outranks my slight dissatisfaction... I guess more good than bad came from it then.

One of these days Amon! Right to the moon! :P

I'd consider working with Ant if he was a active member in a functioning team with at least one other good coder, so if he should decide to leave it needn't be the end of the project.

I might take you up on that...

Octothorpe... Send me an e-mail if you decide to... The more people making games for Time Bridge the better...

I'm also working on a project. Feel free to send me an email: contact@...

It's a FPS engine with online multiplayer support, and we're also adding in TPS and RPG functionality.

Good luck Ant! I might have some payed work for you later ... I need to finish the game first! The thing I am interested is a port to BlitzMax. Not that I couldn't do it myself but I've got another project which most of my energy will be focused on.

Ah go on. Go on. Go on. Go on. Go On. Ah Go on Now! (Unless you've seen father ted that won't make any sense ;) )

Dampse, it's not that I lack the will to complete game, I usually lack the assets. Sometimes it's the will, in the case of fmc but it's never as black and white usually.
Nothing would make me happier than to have a decent product with a dedicated team behind under my belt.

(singing voice) but it's hard. and..nope out of lyrics.

(deep breath) together ( deep breath) we'll conquer the universe.(deep breath). (Darth vader, not an asmatic(sp)

dampse, as for your offer, I might be interested. Are you sure it's something you yourself will see through? Are you a decent artist? (I've not seen any of your work. legitimate question :) )

I checked your site, 403 Forbidden.
Sorry, i've no vacancies.

Even to join a low quality bodging freeware author like me you need a showreel, else i'm teaming up with somebody who can make 403 errors on my server.

And you could supply me with a working 3D engine- That would stop a current major headache! :P

I routinely have ideas that never get any farther than the idea stage, but I'm proud to say that there's only one project I actually started to implement that I abandoned, and that was the b3d exporter for Maya that I announced a while ago. Hm, I should totally work on that again...

I long ago gave up on working with a team. I could never count on the other people. I learned to create art for videogames, and I would repeatedly try to team up with a programmer, but they always flaked out. So, I found Blitz and learned to do my own programming.

The funny thing is, once I gave up finding a team is when I found an awesome collaborator. Of course, we're working on other things and I'm still developing my games on my own.

Programmers complain that artists flake on them, artists complain that programmers flake on them... the real issue is that people are lazy, and so it doesn't matter if they're a programmer or artist, because the vast majority of people flake once the real work starts.

There's totally no point in applying any art to your game until the game engine is fully test and proven to be playable and good fun. By all means you can have half-done placeholders to give people the idea, but if the game is pap, you gotta scrap it or majorlly rework it so grahics (and music of course) aren't needed until near the end imho.

Well, Ant. I'm not going to be doing the art for this project. I don't know who will just yet. It depends on a few things.

What I can tell you is that a great deal of people are interested in working on Time Bridge.

There are at least 2 other games, maybe 3, being worked on right now. A flash RPG, some sorta shooter (I have nothing to do with that one) and maybe something with someone else from around here... (I don't know if he would like to be named in it just yet)

And then there is something I can only call a novel being written and the chapters will be released one by one on Time Bridge's website... and there is an animator/writer working on another story and maybe some traditional animation (he owns a brand new gallery Nowuno in DC.)

I'm also working on a pen and paper RPG system with a group of roleplayers...

I have very little to do with most of this work.. and I'll undoubtedly end up rejecting the novel this one guy is writing if it doesn't fit in with the Time Bridge world ... although it might..

SO Antony. If you build the engine it will get used and a game will be made, and you will make money.

Internet based teams are (IMHO) not yet viable. Until CSCW tools consist of little more than a forum and version control software, the success/failure rate of Internet based team is always going to be disproportionately high.

The best way to join a team is to apply for a job with one. The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.

There's totally no point in applying any art to your game until the game engine is fully test and proven to be playable and good fun.
Certainly that depends on which game you're making? For a game like "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" where in-game art interaction is central to the gameplay, there would be little point in testing the engine with place holders, as you might have to rewrite the whole thing once the art is done.

If all the main elements of a game has to come together as a whole, they need to be developed in paralell.
