Took my keyboard apart

... and put it back together again!

anyone else done this yet?

its working again now, except I put one cap in the wrong place so now the turbo button is constantly pressed down now! however, since I never use that key I think I will just leave it that way. Plus now my Enter key has two caps on it, which is highly unique although a little unnecessary. :)

Incidentally, does anyone actually know WHAT the turbo button is supposed to do? I've been wondering that for some time now.

Oh, it also rocks a lot now when I press a key, which is strange as it didn't used to rock, anyone know why it could be rocking? I'm sure I put it back together properly. It's getting a bit annoying now. :(

I did it once. I liked spelling words with it :)

But looks like you messed it up - buy a new one...hopefully that one wasn't expensive...

Actually, I've done that before with a really old keyboard, gone through it with some canned air and a vaccum cleaner, and then it was as good as new :)

well, obviously but I was wondering if someone knows exactly why this could happen, maybe it is a common problem people have when they take their keyboards apart.

no, it's a standard cheap keyboard, if it was an expensive one I would have left it alone. :)

I thought I would try to clean it, but I didn't know it had all those caps in it so instead of cleaning it I just had to put it back together again. It wasn't really dirty anyway.

Did yours have a rubber cap for each key then?

Edit: the caps in my keyboard are all separate you see, little round rubber caps that fly all over the place!

My laptop keyboard is having trouble. One of the keys isn't working, but it's still there.

did you take it apart or did it just stop working?

I just finished putting my keyboard together again, because i decided i might need the turbo key, but when i put it back together the R key didn't work! everything else was fine. So i took it apart again. the funny thing was that the R key cap was in place, so i decided it could be some dirt on the circuits and so i cleaned it with some multi-purpose cleaning wipes.

maybe your laptop needs a clean, how old is it anyway?

well ok, but by "dirt" i meant dust and stuff that would stop your keyboard working, not bacteria. i can't exactly use bleach on my keyboard anyway.

Oh yes, about the rocking, i fixed it by twisting the keyboard a bit. never would've thought it was that simple! :)

I used to have an aluminium helment but now I have a safe and warm jacket that I can hug myself in all the time... :)

OK that brings up how I typed this... leave it to say... I am very creative!

Thats always good fun :) do it with your mouse too and remove any crap that gets stuck in it... my keyboard also rocks a bit, I just twisted it slightly and now its fine. The constant "thud thud thud" on my desk was beginning to get on my nerves.

great to hear people who know nothing about their hardware are taking it apart :)

seriously, that's how I learned to fix stuff. Dismantle the suckers, and count the screws you got left on re-assembly. The screws loose in your brain count for two :)

anyway, my keyboard is expensive, but I take it apart regular, to wash the keys part in the sink and get it nice and shiny. Its got the plastic mat, though, not the individulal rubber nubbins... or whatever they are...
