Detecting 'beats' in music with Blitz3d

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Detecting 'beats' in music with Blitz3d

I have seem software that reacts to audio streams (visulisations in Media Player) for example.

Does anyone know of a library that will hook Blitz3d up to the PC audio stream so you can react to it?

Bass-

I think there's a link in the toolbox- not too sure. I'm sure someone here has a link to it :)

There's one now! That's the latest version I've found, which is why I've hung onto it so vehemently.

The problem is separating the beat from the bass.... While is some forms of music they are the same... in others the beat and the basslines are independant.... (pick any cream song) and of course others...

however... you don't care to separate them.. since media player and other visualizations don't either.... they are designed with rap, techno and other forms like that... All of which work will with these systems... However... Classical, Metal, and a lot of world music just turns out like fuzz...

LineOf7s : awesome but I still need to buy Bass right?

Boiled...

A long time ago someone did a voice reaction project which had a character opening it's mouth to a replay of a voice over - don't know who but I used to have it on my hard drive. There was no code as I remember but it did work in the way you desrcibe - b3d reacting to a sound file - no idea how good it was though sorry.

IPete2,

I don't need a super accurate sync just a way of getting some form of info from the music stream so I can react to it...

Are you making a DDR type game?

He's doing Vorboils 2.

On a slightly different arc (but one that might help out with the above)

Yes, if you plan on attempting to make any money with whatever uses the BASS.DLL module (including the BlitzBASS code above), then you're subject to the licensing issues as detailed on www.un4seen.com

That may or may not be a problem, depending on how much money you plan to make. :o)

Toby : almost correct, Vorboils 3!

Wassat?

I don't mind buying BASS if it's gonna work as these are shareware products and I'll willing to run at a loss :-(

DDR = Dance Dance Revolution

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_Dance_Revolution

The game is typically played on a dance pad with four arrow panels: up, down, left, and right. These panels are pressed using the player's feet, in response to arrows that appear on the screen in front of the player. The arrows are synchronized to the general rhythm or beat of a chosen song, and success is dependent on the player's ability to time his or her steps accordingly.
