IndieShowcase - Alpha DX9 Renderer
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/IndieShowcase - Alpha DX9 Renderer
I'll go for a download this time, I'll do an igLoader version when it's tested :D
This is the DX version of the showcase tool, it's a fully integrated DX9 Rendering Engine, you got more shaders and goodies than you can shake a stick at. If you want to know more about the Rendering Engine then Google "Dawn Bringer"
BUT, does it work on your machine?
http://indiepath.com/public/showcase_alpha.rar
Error: Application failed to start because d3dx9_24.dll was not found.
Repackage methinks.
Yep I get the same error. Good old windows.
Well it shows a Ball with the 2 textures on but the normal map just looks like a flat grey texture ?
Oh and if your interested I have a Geforce 6700XL card so it's more than capable of normal mapping :)

Sounds like your gfx card can't handle that particular shader if it's gone grey. One of my PCs does that with shaders that work on another machine.
@Grey, you need DX9 installed for it to work.
I've got 9c installed. I play all the latest FPS games.
Same as Grey and Enay here.

After a quick google...
http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html[/edit]
Okay, now I get this...
Sorry Enay I think you miss interpreted what I mean, there are no bumps like every other normal mapping routine's I have ever tried has. I would asume that it was suppose to look like a normal mapped sphere, but it just looks like a lowish poly sphere with 2 textures blended on it with no 3d bumpyness.
Hmm, seeing that picture Matt posted that doesn't really look much different to what I got, just doesnt look bumpy to me.
this text seems to explain the problem:
There have been issues with DirectX since the February 2005 update relating to the D3DX dll library files. You can no longer distributes apps without the DirectX runtime and expect them to work.
Windows XP users who keep their machines up to date should all have DirectX 9.0c installed but not the D3DX dlls so will get errors about missing d3dx9_24.dll, d3dx9_25.dll, d3dx9_26.dll, d3dx9_27.dll, d3dx9_28.dll and d3dx9_29.dll. Unfortunately the end user is not automatically downloading the new dlls. The only solution is to distribute the DirectX runtime with your app. however if you are providing your app. as a download this could increase its size. You could of course just include the dll. although this is against the agreement (EULA).
From the June 2005 release Microsoft solved these problems somewhat by allowing the developer to create a minimal installer that just updates the D3DX dll.
Anyway I grabbed the dll from teh cab and stuck it in the test folder and it worked, I get a sphere like above but mine's small about 100 pixels across.
My card is a Radeon 9800XT.
WTF! Why is DX9 so @#!*e!
Doesn't have anything to do with the fact there's like 4 bloody versions of 9c is it?
(Microsoft seemed to have forgotten there were 23 other letters in the alphabet..)
Will be testing this on my system once I finish this image-render.

Hmmm...Do ya think that may have been why I linked to the page? ;op
I get a sphere like above but mine's small about 100 pixels across.
Yeah, it starts off being about that size but I zoomed in for the pic :o)
@Indiepath - Is that how it's supposed to look?
MalcolmTheMyopicMoose: Of course that's why you linked, but not everyone always reads the links, as evidenced by indie's exclamation. I though it would be useful to him(i.e. make him swear), so I copied it :-)
How do you zoom in?
Yeah I was confused about 9c as I got it when it first came out, but just downloaded the Dcemember version the other say, it remains uninstalled at the moment.
Left-Click mouse and drag to the left/down Grey Alien.
Anyhow, using DX9.c (December) here, got same result as Malcoms' screengrab there.
AMD64 3200+
256mb GF6800 GT
WinXP Pro SP2
@Grey - Just a bit of good humoured sarcasm, don't take it personally. :o)
OK thanks.
Common Tim, put something decent up that makes us go oooh!
Yeah that's what it looks like, crap 'aint it. I'm compiling using the Feb 2005 version of DX9!!!
I've got some much better models to show soon, well when it works!
I'm currently eating a disgusting Morrisons own brand veg soup. All the vegetables are hard and chewy. Should I carry on eating it?
it worked here... i got the same results as Malcom above... DX9c GeForceFX5200 XP

very latest DX install here on my machine.
Yeah it's a bummer. You would think that by having DX9 installed you would have the necessary .dll present. I bang my head some more!
> WTF! Why is DX9 so @#!*e!
This is exactly why PC platforms will NEVER EVER EVER be good reliable gaming platforms. Stick with consoles, at least with those shading effects you know everyone is seeing the same thing.
I disagree.
I agree with the one eyed monster. ;P
Works here but had to download the DLL.
Works fine here, just not much to see.
Is the sphere really bumpmapped? if you turn the sphere up side down, the lighting does not change.
Works 'fine' here, after downloading the dlls. Good thing you did this test first ;]
The engine has been written by a colleague, it's WIP for this task, at least it works better than the OGL version so far :)
i couldn't get it to work because d3dx9_24.dll wasn't found. i have a geforce fx 5200.
