Music for Easter Bonus

Hiya,

I wondered if anyone would like to contribute some music for Easter Bonus, my next game. You'll get properly credited within the game, plus you can add it to your portfolio or work and link to it from your site if you want. Hopefully by now you'll know that I released Xmas Bonus at Christmas and that it got >50,000 downloads in 2 weeks (my publisher already leaked this figure so I'm not breaking my NDA). I plan for Easter Bonus to hit more portals and to be even bigger.

The game is a real cheesy match-3, kinda easter eggs, chicks, flowers, that kind of thing so the music needs to be cheesy and fun too, hopefully with a nice little tune, not techno/breakbeat, or perhaps "soothing" as xlsior puts it. Perhaps with a "spring" or flowery feel. You'll notice the title and game over music (see below) has a classical feel, but the ingame music is different.

I already have these tunes, although I'm perfectly willing to change them if better ones come along:

What I still need is:

- around 3 more in-game tunes
- level complete music (I'm currently using one of my own but it's too "mod"dy and doesn't fit in).
- game complete music
- possible alternative title music?

The in-game music needs to loop and should only be around 1 minute long otherwise the oggs will get massive. If it is really excellent I guess I can make it longer. The level complete and game complete music only need to be "tunelets" that are quite short as noone will hang around on those screens for long. Again it's better if they loop.

My impression: Overall not bad, although the 'in-game' music seems a tad on the obnoxious side. Too loud/bouncy, with some of the tones being rather high-pitched. Mind you, the tune itself is by no means bad, but it is kind of 'in your face'.

With the xmas/easter bonus style puzzle games, it's important for the music to be a bit low profile, since people end up hearing the same tune for hours on end when they really get into the game.

You probably should try to find something a little more 'soothing'. The other two tunes sounds good for intro/game over, though.

Thanks xlsior. The other problem with the in-game music is that the musician didn't quantise the lead, if you listen carefully, and I would've kinda preffered it quantised. I think it's quite funny and cheerful, it seems to fit with the first level in the game quite well, which you can't see obviously, but I do take your point about "soothing". The msuic will be played at 60% volume by default anyway, and the user can pump it up (remeber that tune haha) if they want.

When is the estimated release date?

Start of April, so that it'll be on all the portals over Easter, gotta time it right or it drops out of the new game lists BEFORE Easter, also too late is bad for obvious reasons.

Just out of interest Grey, would you be willing to pay for the music as I know of a composer who could provide some seriously nice tunes for your game for a small price.

Yes I would, if the price is right, it can't be much as I don't really have a big budget for this game or anything, the money will be made WHEN it's sold. I was avoiding mentioning pricing until I saw what freebie offers came up as lots of people are keen to get credited on bona fide games. Only problem Ive got with your friend doing the music if is they made something special and I didn't like it! It would be better for them to let me hear any existing tunes and see if I want to buy one of those. The only other thing is that if I'm prepared to spend long enough rooting round on the web I can probably find the right free music anyway. I was trying to avoid spending the time by seeing if anyone wanted to volunteer some music as recently there have been a few threads about it, and they were threads by non-established developers (I think), so I thought I might be in with a chance too :-) Although I appreciate the type of music I want may be harder to obtain.

Anyway, if your friend has an online portfolio, I'd love to hear it so see what it's like and then maybe we can talk...
