Project Management Tool for games.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Project Management Tool for games.

Our project management tool is about to get an overhaul, I'd be interested in any features people would like to see in the product.

For those who have not seen the tool yet : http://www.indiepath.com/project/

Hi there! When I look at the description of the tool, it looks like a general taskmanager tool. What makes this a "project management tool for games"?

That's what we use it for. And I had to mention games in the post title otherwise they'd delete me :D

well it is software (thus IT related) so I'm not sure the thread can be deleted anyway. If it was a paper and pen system then maybe, but not if it related to game development. That's what I think anyway.

That's what I think anyway.

Ahhh, Victor and Hugo, the oft-forgotten cousins to DangerMouse and Duckula.

Bit harsch to delete the post I think :-)
Nice to know it exists though.

I have made a content management system for adventure games called ASS (Adventure Story System), a combination of a file manager, forum, task planner, asset manager including status (hierarchy: scene -> object -> actors -> dialogues, etc) and an interactive storyboarding system.
Not for sale though :-)

Do you have some screenshots to share? Curious how you visualised it.

Updated Initial Post.

Make it better than this, somehow.

This is Blitz related as there are several projects out there with more than one person doing them, what I find harsh is the whole off-topic has to be blitz related thing.

Not really:

Any topics that are not directly related to computer games, computer programming or of a general technical nature will be removed from this forum.

Thanks Noel, looks like they even managed to use my original Icon set :)

Thanks Noel, I'll pay that some attention.

I've noticed several similar products being launched recently.

Look at this one, kinda similar eh? I wonder what prompted them to lay the data out in such a way?

Swifty should be proud; people naming their software after him ;)

I looked at indiepath.project a while ago, out of curiosity. It definietly looks like a very well produced piece of software...
I have a suggestion, though: There aren't many menus at the top of your interface. When I look at screenshots for computer programs, I sometimes (stupidly) find the menus to be a good way to identify how featureful they are. Perhaps you can make it bigger by arranging some of your tasks reached by hotkeys and right click menus into there as well. (It's actualyl been stated in a few articles about interfaces, and by me many times, that every shortcut option should also be easily accessible through the menu bar.

BTW... your web site is really amazing. Excellent salesmanship; everything that I read about there, I want to buy :)

Hi,yeah I'm not much of a GUI designer I admit.

All of the functions are available via right click on the items, this will bring up a host of pop-ups which will allow you to do an number of things depending on the selected item. For example a right click on the root will allow you to create a new customer, right click on the customer and you can create a new project and so on.

About the sales patter, it would be nice if these things sold themselves, but alas they do not :)

I have some suggestions:

It should be linked over the internet, so it can be collaborative. Each team member can add to the ToDo list, etc.

And it should have support for different currencies, like USD, GBP, and whatever the European one is.

@Laeronai,

The new version has collaborative features which utilise server based SQL databases. In fact we have several levels of permissions so project managers can see all projects and developers for example can only see therr own or tasks assigned to them. The software still maintains a local SQL database for offline work.

The current version does have currency support, the example above is showing EURO but it can be anything you like.

Tim.

It's not too bad though, from the looks of it!
