Where can I get game music from?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Where can I get game music from?

I'm looking for a tune to go with the puzzle game I'm making. The SoundFX are all done and work well with the game but all it needs now is a catchy tune.

I don't mind if the music is freeware or if there is a charge for it. I'm just looking for game specific music like menu music, gameplay music etc.

Some links would be appreciated.

Thanks :)

There's plenty cheap tunes for sale here: http://www.arteria-gaming.com/

Failing that search out unsigned mp3 artists, most would love to have the bragging rights to "I did the music for a computer game"...

Bjørn Lynne is licensing much of his catalogue of music and sounds...(Some of us may remember him from the Amiga)

He's also seems to be open to licensing the rest of his work on the same terms as on shockwave.

I'd gladly write some music for credit... How many tunes would you need?

I too can make music. Hit me up.

Hi Guys. The shoickwave site is exactly what I needed. Thanks :)

@Damp & Dan.

If you feel like it I need music to go with a puzzler similar to Zuma. I need menu music, bonus round tunes and general gameplay music.

Thanks :)

I'm willing to pay also if the price is right.

10,000$ a song :P

I can give you mp3 or wav which are recordings of pretty standard Midi 2.0 sounds... or just give you the midis which you can give to someone else who has access to better equipment... I haven't the money for anything that good... like really nice synths or whatever...

I used to have access to stuff like that through school... but.. I don't go there anymore hahahah...

Anyway... what styles of music are you looking for.. or do you not put that much though into it...

Just get some music making software ... Garage Band, Acid, MTV Music Generator, etc...

Making decent music still requires some talent as well. :-)

I can whip up some half-way decent looking graphics without problems myself, but when it comes to making music I'm so tone-deaf I can make a deaf guy cringe.

LOL ... I suppose that's true. I'm not too bad ... well although Computer Gaming World didn't like the Aerial Antics music ... then again I made that in 5 minutes with the goal for it not to be too annoying since it was going to be the only track in the game and to have some feeling of flight ... if you listen to the bridge in the song it should have an uplifting/rising feeling. Some of the music I made for True-Vol was really pretty darn good though. I'm going to be reusing some of it for my shooter. Worth a shot any how ... it's just like anything else it basically just takes time.

MTV music generator.... *shudders*

Hey, don't knock it!

*Kicks Jeremy.

MTV Music Generator? What are you on man!!!?? :P

I remember using Music2000 and thinking it was cool. Ew!

Get Fruityloops- (FLStudio now) although I hate how the newer systems work- Buy the sequencer, then buy all the add-ons you want to use. Ew again, but it makes for excelent, studio quality music. :)

I'm looking for something puzzly style. Moderate tempo, easy on the ears.

Just make about a hundred tunes and I'll pick the one I like ;)

In case you didn't see it at CW...

yeah greatlink thanks. My free music collection is swelling now!

GO ahead and have a listen to what I already have here... http://www.dampes8n.com under M for music... There is a bunch there and if you hear something you like just tell me.. I can record it as an Mp3 or Wav .... you could also use it as a midi... but it won't sound the same of every PC.. and won't sound as good... but will take up far less space...

Heres some for yas....

@neuro: The fact that he's willing to pay indicates to me that the music from those sites is off-limits. That said, thanks for the vgmusic link! I forsee many happy hours spent perusing their archives.

I wouldn't use anything but this:

I have the talent to make music, but I have dreadful equipment. I can't afford very good software - I would like Fruity Loops, but even it is too expensive.

I make fairly good music, and I'm not that bad of a programmer, but when it comes to art, I couldn't save my life to make a good model. I'm "ok" at 2D art, and I'm "ok" at modeling, but I can't do textures...it's just too hard. Maybe I should try getting Milkshape or gmax or something and getting better...
