UPDATED - Nicer lighting (hand-drawn ambient occlusion!)
I've spent the last while designing and building some vehicles for a game I am designing (and will hopefully eventually write.)
Here is a shot of the first "test object"

And if you guys want to fly around it yourself, in realtime, here is a compiled build of my openGl "engine" if you can call it that.

that ship looks nothing less than awesome!
Looks cool, very detailed. A little too Egyptian looking for my taste, considering Zeppelins where a German invention.
Yeaaahhh. I decided to abandon actual historical design.
I took cues from British tall ships and tribal warships from
way back. I might refine it further.
In real life, the only two "battle dirigibles" ever built were
blown into the ground by a breeze. Hehe. (They were
airborne aircraft carriers, just like in Crimson Skies!)
Very nice texturing job, though I too have to agree with Flameduck on the Egyption thing.
Can we get a close-up of the bridge?
(or whatever they're called on the zeppelins)
You can download the exe and get a closeup of whatever you like!
Ah, didn't notice the link that screams "D O W N L O A D M E !".
Right, looks great still, but one thing been bothering me.....I cant tell if it's just some really good texturing there, or if the thing is bump-mapped? Just has that tangible look to it on the blimp portion of the zep.
man, that is sooooo coool...
great job... forget the critiques, this zep is from a game based on a fantasy world... don't change a thing...

i just ran your demo... hey, this is exactly what i was talking about in the other forum, using detail (or bump mapped textures) to add a lil realism to the appearance of the models...
i really like what you did here...
Lenn... do you see this!!! :)

I suppose that may be bump mapped, but it could simply be lighting information baked into a normal texture. After all, neither the light source nor the model are moving.
That's right. All the light and texture information is baked.
If (when) this demo is made to have moving components,
I would make the shadows less defined and opt for ambient
occlusion instead of shadows.
i disagree with the Egyptian look; in fact I like it that you combined this semi-Ehyptian look with the invention of another culture. It gives in a unique style IMHO.
hey.. that's some nice work you have done there.
Kinda reminds me of a zeppelin version of the flying ship in Final Fantasy (10?)...
Very nice model. I was going to mention it reminds me of the airship in Final Fantasy IX, but LarsG beat me to it.
fantastic! I really like it!
yup... i'm with Jeroen on the blimp design... like i said above, i like it as it is... very imaginative...
texture baking eh... coool... i'm achieving similar results by combining a regular texture and a normalmap in Gile[s]...
while not as dynamic as dot3, it has its uses...
again... great job...

Oh, I guess I should mention some specs. The thing uses
3800 tris and one 1024x1024 diffuse texture. I was able to
have 8 of them display simultaneously on my machine before
the fps went below 60. That's gotta be good, right?
