I'm looking for a coder or maybe more than one. They probably would not have a major project currently or one planned for the first half of this year.
If you happen to like and use Microsoft FlightSim (9.1) regularly, have more than one computer and they can be networked, if you also use Pete Dowson's software then this would all be very useful, as these will be something you would probably need to be familiar with. If you got an old-ish (just/almost this century perhaps) laptop that is stuck with say 800x600 then this would be ideal, but not required. I suspect Blitz3d is the tool for the job on this one, (certainly for the display aspect). It might be good if the coder knew other languages too, so they can at least study the SDKs that are available.
I don't know at this stage of the plan if this can make money or not, but I would not be adverse to looking at the result and seeing if it can make a few bob to keep the wheels turning, (as long as doing that would make sense, not just because it could be done). I have some idea about how that might be made to happen, but I'd see it as a prerequisite to have a product in use to be able to assess it first. Until then there would be nothing to discuss on that. This is not all that complex a project in nature, but distractions won't help, and certainly not those of a nature where discussing in detail something that does not yet exist are concerned. (let's see if we can make something worth using first, and worth selling second.)
There are certain design features that are immutable, but we can discuss that in full detail later.
I model, and do so with the sort of competence you get after bashing away at it for more than ten years, I do that in lightwave and in metric units. I can export to directx as a last resort, anything you can do to ease the path form my workflow to your workflow will clearly be very helpful, the easier it gets, the more useful it will be. I work with multiple surfaces and one or two bit maps when they are what the job in hand calls for, but they are a secondary thing for me as modelling is how I personally go about getting there if at all possible. I seldom use the first model I make, I'm always prepared to rip it up and start again if there are sound reasons to do that.
To me +Z is in front of me and +X is to my right, and +Y is above me. 1 metre = 1 metre. Angles come in degrees and increment in a clockwise fashion (just like they do on a compass). I like to start with basics and build on good, "known to be solid" foundations.
If we see eye to eye in general, and in particular on that last para, "ian.mirk @ gmail.com" works.
Some way of me being able to easily see your completed projects will probably give you a distinct advantage.
Contact is welcomed if you are interested in taking this on. I've tried to be as honest as I know how, to allow you to see what would be involved/expected, this is so as not to waste your time, and give you a choice right up front.
It probably is going to be a bit challenging; I'm after creating a truly first class end user experience which is the best it can be made to be in spite of MSFS 9.1 shortcomings.
Expecting to commence in earnest from February, Project would need to be working by June/July - otherwise it will just be lost in all the hype around the new FS vesion due some 5 months after that.
